Wollongong, your Uber is arriving soon

February 15, 2017 / Wollongong

Whether you’re heading to the beach, your favourite restaurant or out for a few drinks on Crown St, getting around Wollongong is about to get a whole lot easier.

From Thursday 16 March you’ll be able to request a safe, reliable, and affordable ride whenever and wherever you are in Wollongong, Kiama or Shellharbour! All you need to do is download the Uber app before launch.

And if you want to share rides in your own vehicle to earn some extra money, you can sign up to drive today here.

Evolving the way Wollongong moves

We know Illawarra has been underserved by public transport and getting around the local area hasn’t always been easy. In fact, for most residents and visitors, getting a bus isn’t an option and getting a taxi may not be all that affordable. Whether it’s getting to work or out for dinner with friends and family, most residents and visitors in Wollongong have come to rely on driving to get from A to B.

Soon that all changes

From 16 March anyone, anywhere can push a button and get a ride in minutes in Wollongong.  As we have seen in more than 450 cities around the world, this will transform the way Illawarra moves.

The introduction of Uber will have a positive impact on many issues the region has been working to address for many years, such as drink-driving; access to work for those that need it; and reliable access to transport.

We’re confident ridesharing will be a huge positive for residents, visitors and the local economy, contributing toward a more economically vibrant and better connected Illawarra region.
