In our journey to becoming a zero emissions platform by 2040, we want to help encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by bringing exclusive offers to driver-partners on the Uber platform in Australia.
What’s happening?
From the 11th October 2022, eligible driver-partners in Sydney can rent-to-own a brand-new premium electric vehicle Polestar 2 and get a 50% reduction in service fee up to $6,000 per financial year until June 2025 as an extension of Uber’s EV program.
Eligible driver-partners can sign up to rent-to-own a Polestar 2 from $550/week, $100/week lower than the retail price thanks to a NSW Government funding subsidy offered by Splend.
Moreover, Polestar 2s are eligible to drive for Comfort and Premium riders in addition to Uber X, enabling driver-partners to earn more on each trip with these products.
Why are we doing this?
Australians are increasingly making the switch to electric vehicles and doing their bit to help the planet. But it’s challenging to get an EV with the current supply constraints and high upfront costs.
This partnership with Splend gives driver-partners exclusive access to transition to a premium EV and ability to pay down the cost over several years as they earn on the platform.
This initiative will also allow Uber to launch “Comfort Electric”, a premium all-electric rides offering, in early 2023 where riders can be guaranteed a 100% emissions-free EV and drivers can earn even more on each of those trips.
A long-time Uber driver partner, Alan recently upgraded to a Polestar 2 from his Mazda Sedan. Here is what he has to say about his experience so far:
“I don’t look at fuel prices anymore, it’s a great feeling! I am saving more than half the amount I used to spend on fuel. I go to shopping centres and have a coffee while the car is being charged.
It is an amazing car, I love it. I feel privileged to drive a beautiful car like this. I’m driving the future, for my kids and for the country.
It’s a worthwhile investment. Customers love the car and they ask about it. I see increased revenue per trip. If I continue for 4 years I’ll be able to own it.

Terms and Conditions
This offer is available to select Sydney-based driver-partners who have completed more than 3,000 trips since the signup date as per the rental terms set forth by the rental company. Uber is not responsible for the products or services offered by other companies, or for the terms and conditions (including financial terms) under which those products and services are offered.
Service fee reduction of 50% is available to a maximum of $6,000 per financial year (1 July – 30 June) per driver-partner until June 2025. There are a maximum of 500 spaces available for eligible driver-partners who drive a Polestar 2 from Splend.
New or existing driver-partners need to meet all of the driving and documentary requirements for driving on the Uber app to be eligible for this promotion.
