A Safe Journey Starts with a Safe and Compliant Vehicle

In Australia, maintaining a roadworthy vehicle isn’t just about performance—it’s a legal requirement.

To help keep every trip safe, vehicles on the Uber platform must be regularly maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. All maintenance must be completed by a  licensed mechanic and up-to-date maintenance records must be kept.

Driving a vehicle that does not meet these standards may result in fines from your local transport regulator and/or loss of access to the Uber platform.

Daily POWERS check

A quick POWERS check at the start of each day (or night!) is a smart habit that helps keeps both driver-partners and riders safe throughout every journey.

P – Petrol (or Power): Check your fuel level or EV battery charge. Do you have enough to reach your destination (and the next available station)?
O – Oil: Check under your car for oil or fluid leaks.
W – Water: Check your water levels and windscreen wipers.
E – Electrics: Check headlights, indicators, and dash warning lights.
R – Rubber: Ensure you have at least 1.5mm of tread depth across the entire surface that touches the road. If your tyres are bald, they must be replaced immediately.
S – Seatbelts and Signage: Check your seatbelts and ensure your Uber Sticker is displayed correctly. See here for more information.

A few final checks for roadworthiness

Windscreen: Check for any cracks or chips.
Mirrors: Ensure all mirrors are clean, secure, and adjusted for the best possible visibility.
Brakes: Test your brakes to ensure they are working as expected.

By taking a few minutes to complete these checks, you’re helping to keep yourself, your riders, and the community safe on every trip.
