Make a difference for Dubai school children

February 5, 2018 / Dubai

Being part of the community means lending a helping hand to others when it matters most. We’re delighted to work with the Emirates Red Crescent and charity duo Olga Zolotova and Mohamed Khalaf in hosting a stationery supply drive to support the education of crisis-afflicted children.

How you can help

Donate your stationery items to the children of the Emirates Red Crescent Learning Center. Drop off your items in the donation boxes placed at Times Square Mall from February 6 to 28 between 10am and 10pm.

If you don’t get a chance to visit the donation boxes, you can request a pick-up on demand on February 27th and 28th. Uber cars will be available around the city to collect items from your doorstep at the tap of a button. And, of course, it’s free of charge.

How it works

  • Open or download the Uber app.
  • On February 27th or 28th, between 2pm and 8pm, tap the ‘UberDONATE’ option at the bottom of the screen.
  • If your timing is right, a Partner-Driver will collect your stationery items within minutes.

Keep in mind availability will be limited. If your request isn’t accepted right away, wait a few minutes and try again.

Items you can donate:

  • Notebooks
  • Lamination sheets (A3 or A4)
  • Black, white or coloured paper (A4)
  • Glitter
  • Glue sticks
  • Sketch books
  • Graded readers
  • Whiteboard markers
  • Colouring pencils
  • Colourful chart papers
  • Erasers
  • Highlighters
  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Rulers
  • Craft scissors
  • Staplers/staples
  • Sticky notes

Ride for a cause

We’re also making a donation to help cover the cost of school fees. For each ride taken in Dubai on Saturday, February 24th from 9am to 9pm, we’ll donate a portion of the proceeds from each trip to the Emirates Red Crescent Learning Center.

About the Emirates Red Crescent Learning Center

The ERCLC opened its doors in July 2017 to launch a special learning program for children transitioning to the UAE after being displaced from their home countries, as many of these children did not have access to education prior to arriving in Dubai. The ERCLC teaches basic skills in English, Arabic, science, arithmetic and computer skills, laying the foundation for entry exams before integration into the local school system. 120 children between the ages of 8 and 12 are currently enrolled. The school is funded by local organizations, companies and individual donations.

The climb up Mount Aconcagua

United by their mission “Sport for Health. Sport for Help,” Olga Zolotova and Mohamed Khalaf are two activists who run, cycle and climb to express social responsibility and raise awareness of important social matters. In line with the stationary drive, the duo’s latest sports challenge is climbing the highest peak in South America–Mount Aconcagua–to encourage residents of Dubai to support the Emirates Red Crescent Learning Center. The mountain rises 6,962 meters above sea level and it is considered the highest of Seven Summits after Mount Everest.

As the official logistics sponsor, we will also be handling all transportation expenses to support their expedition.

Please engage your friends, family members, and colleagues to participate and donate. Let’s help provide the children with the education they deserve!
