How to drive with Uber in Czech Republic

Uber is a great way to be your own boss and make money. Most people are eligible to drive with Uber. Here’s what you need to know if you’re driving.

Check what opportunities you have to cooperate with the Uber app

You’re a driver working under a licensed fleet partner. This means:

  • The fleet partner owns a business license to operate a taxi service and vehicle(s)
  • You’ve agreed on payment and working terms with them
  • You’ll drive using their business licence

You’re a self-employed driver who:

  • Has a valid taxi driver's license and operates a vehicle, whether owned or rented
  • Runs their own business and holds a valid tax registration
  • Drives independently, without relying on fleet partners

You’re a business owner with a valid trade license to operate a taxi service and a valid tax registration who:

  • Manages one or more vehicles, or provides the taxi license for drivers with their own cars
  • Provides access to these vehicles to other drivers

Find a fleet partner

To start driving under a fleet partner, first find the partner you'd like to work with and get in touch to discuss the collaboration details – such as the vehicle, payments, and schedule. Then, ask the partner to send you an invitation to join their fleet in the Uber system.

Arrange a Vehicle

If you already found a fleet partner, it's time for the next step – your vehicle.

If you're using a car provided by your fleet partner, you don’t need to worry about the paperwork – the partner will handle the registration and documents.

If you’re planning to use your own car, you need to:

  • check if your vehicle meets all the requirements
  • register your car in the Taxi Vehicle Register, you will obtain a window sticker with the official registration number
  • make sure that the fleet partner is listed in the Vehicle registration certificate as “Operator”

This can be done in person at the Prague City Hall. Just fill out a simple form and pay a registration fee of CZK 1000.

Activate your account

After adding all documents, adding a partner and a car your account will be active.

Have any questions or need support? Feel free to reach out via the Help section in the app, Video Chat, or visit the Driver & Partner Hub in Prague.

Registering Your Business

To start operating legally, it's mandatory to register at the Trade License Office. You can do this either in person or online using the official portal.

If you're registering as a sole trader (živnostník), this single step is enough to begin.

If you want to register a company (e.g., s.r.o. – limited liability company), additional steps are required:

  • Prepare Articles of Association with a notary
  • Open a business bank account and deposit the required share capital
  • Register your company in the Commercial Register and notify the Financial Office

Complete your VAT registration

To complete your registration as a driver with Uber in the Czech Republic, you need an EU VAT registration – this is required because you receive services (like the service fee) from Uber B.V. in the Netherlands.

Good to know: You don't have to pay VAT on your revenue, unless it exceeds CZK 2 million/year. You only pay VAT on the service fee invoice from Uber.

If your business is already a VAT-registered entity, there's no need to apply for EU VAT registration.

Steps:

  • Set up a data mailbox (datová schránka) – it’s free and makes communication easier.
  • Fill out the VAT registration form online on the Czech Tax Portal.
  • Upload the confirmation to the Uber platform.

Submit your documents

  • ID/Residence permit/Passport (with a valid VISA if issued by a non-EU country)
  • Driving license
  • Taxi driving license
  • Profile picture
  • Business license
  • EU VAT Registration / VAT registration
  • Bank statement

Complete Your Banking & Invoicing Details

To ensure smooth payouts and proper invoicing, independent drivers are required to provide their banking and invoicing information.

You can easily fill in your details in one of the following ways:

  • Directly in the Uber Driver app
  • On the partner portal at supplier.uber.com, in the Banking and Invoicing section

Make sure all information is accurate and up to date to avoid any delays in payments.

Arrange a Vehicle

Make sure your car is eligible for use with the Uber Driver app:

  • Check if your vehicle meets all the local requirements
  • Register your vehicle in the Taxi Vehicle Register, you will obtain a window sticker with the official registration number

These steps are necessary before you can start driving.

  • Car registration
  • Third-party insurance
