Frequently asked questions from Hertz

  • The Hertz weekly rental base rate starts at $285 per week plus taxes, fees, gas, and other additional charges. A $265 refundable security deposit will also be collected by Hertz when you pick up the car and will be held while you rent.

  • A $265 refundable security deposit is collected and held by Hertz on your credit card when you pick up the car. The deposit is returned when you stop renting the vehicle and return the car. If you have an outstanding payment on the rental or incur other charges during the rental period, the deposit may be used by Hertz to cover some or all of that amount.

  • You can pay for your rental using a credit card. Prepaid, debit or stored value cards are not accepted. Cards must have available credit for the estimated amount of rental charges, the deposit, and any additional charges that may be incurred.

  • Uber drivers who rent a vehicle from Hertz are currently not picked up by Hertz. Instead, drivers get to choose in advance the date and time to pick up their rental at a Hertz office.

  • You will be eligible to extend your rental up to 3 times, every 7 days. No matter where you rented your car, every 28 days, the vehicle needs to be returned to the rental branch from where you rented for routine maintenance and to start a new contract (up to 28 days) if you wish to keep the car. At that point, Hertz will inspect the car and perform maintenance service if you want to keep the same car, or you can swap out your vehicle for a different model. If you don't want to extend your rental, Hertz’s policy allows you to return your rental anytime after you pick it up and pay a prorated fee to Hertz for the time you rented it.

  • To rent a Hertz vehicle, you need a provincial driver’s license and valid credit card with your own name and enough available credit at the time of rental. An authorization hold will be secured on the credit card provided to cover the estimated rental charges and the $265 refundable security deposit. You also need to have created your driver account with Uber, uploaded all driver documents and cleared a background screening.

  • On most retail rentals at corporate locations and participating licensee locations in Canada, the minimum age to rent a Hertz vehicle is 21.

  • Drivers can usually rent cars that are compact sedans, such as a Hyundai Sonata, or midsize sedans, like a Nissan Altima.
