Drive with WAV

WAV (wheelchair-accessible vehicle) is a ride option that helps ensure that everyone in a community has access to a ride when they need one. You can help your community and earn money when you drive with WAV.

Why drive with WAV?

  • Lower service fee for all your trips within Toronto

  • Additional cash reward for every completed WAV trip¹

  • Receive both UberX and WAV requests

  • Help your community by providing more transportation options for people with accessibility needs

How WAV and UberX differ

WAV

  • Requires a vehicle capable of loading and securing passengers using motorized wheelchairs
  • Drivers are required to take an approved WAV course
  • Drivers can receive UberX and WAV trip requests (no UberPool or UberXL)
  • Since WAV riders may require assistance and need to be secured, trips can be longer

UberX

  • 4-door vehicle
  • Drivers do not require any additional course
  • Drivers can receive UberX and UberPool trips
  • UberX riders typically require minimal or no driver assistance

UberWAV Vehicle Requirements

  • The entrance of the wheelchair must be on the side of the vehicle
  • Removed middle seats
  • Wheelchair positioning must be in the middle lane. J-hooks for the seating must be in the middle of the vehicle, between the driver seat and the passenger seat
  • Meet minimum vehicle requirements in Toronto
