Vehicle requirements

Kitchener-Waterloo
Kitchener-Waterloo has passed a ridesharing bylaw. Does your vehicle qualify to drive with Uber? Most 4-door cars do, but requirements vary by vehicle option. Get the details.
  • 4-door vehicle with independently opening doors
  • 10 years or newer
  • Good condition with no cosmetic damage
  • No commercial branding
  • No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
  • Pass a vehicle inspection

Registration

Uber accepts both official and temporary registration documents. The vehicle does not need to be registered in your name to qualify. However, your name must be on the vehicle insurance.

Insurance

Ontario has approved an insurance policy from Intact Insurance designed specifically for ridesharing partners. All partners are also required to maintain a personal insurance policy.

Under local regulations for Kitchener-Waterloo, all partners must display an Uber decal on their vehicle while online. Place one on your front passenger windshield and rear passenger windshield facing outward. You can remove them when you decide to go offline and save them for the next time. Pro tip: keep the paper it comes with to place your sticker on when not in use.
