Instructions for drivers

  • Tell us a little about yourself and your car by creating a driver profile.

  • Take photos of the following documents and upload them to your account:

    • Driver's licence: 21+ years old, Class 1, 2, or 4 (restricted or unrestricted) licences are accepted. Class 5 is not accepted. Make sure to avoid using flash so that your information is clear and readable. If you're uploading an interim licence, please include a government-issued photo ID (e.g. BC services card, passport) in the same photo to verify your identity.
    • Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Registration: Vehicle must be 9 years or newer and must have 4 doors and 5 seats. The vehicle cannot be rebuilt or salvaged. Please be sure to include all 4 corners of the full document (including the top half, Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence, and the bottom half, Vehicle Registration). When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that the licence plate number and VIN on the insurance is clearly legible.
    • Proof of work eligibility: Birth certificate, Citizenship card, Passport, Permanent PR card, Work permit, Social Insurance Number card or letter, Study permit (if it declares the ability to work off-campus unrelated to program of study), Certificate of Indian Status, Canadian Forces Identification Card, Nexus card. Please submit a photo or the original document. Scanned copies are not accepted. Make sure to avoid using flash so that your information is clear and readable.
      • If you are uploading a work permit extension letter, upload the extension letter and your work permit in the same photo
      • If you are waiting for your renewed PR card, upload a photo of your current PR card and PR card extension letter
  • British Columbian drivers need a valid Class 1, 2, or 4 licence in order to drive with Uber. To receive a Class 4 licence, you must pass a knowledge test, a road test, and a medical exam.

  • Once you've successfully uploaded photos of your Class 4 driver's licence to your profile, you'll receive an email from Triton, our trusted background screening partner. The email will contain a link to your free online background screening. The screening will take 3 – 5 days to process and your results will be automatically uploaded to your profile.

If you wish to provide your own Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC-VS), you can provide it to our team by signing in here and uploading your document. Prior to uploading the document, please ensure the following:

    • All pages must be uploaded.
    • Make sure the image is not blurry. We need to be able to read the text on each document and verify security features such as police stamps or embossed seals.
    • Please show the entire document in the image. Make sure all 4 corners are visible. The document will not be approved if all 4 corners are not visible.
    • Scanned or photocopied documents will not be accepted. It is best practice to use your phone's camera to take photos of the original document.
    • Take a close up photo of the police seal found on the bottom of Page 3 of the document and upload that as well.
  • Request your Commercial Driving Record from ICBC online. When submitting your request for your Commercial Driving Record, there will be a page in the process where you can request to send the documents to another person of your choice, enter the following email address bcmvr-group@uber.com to send your Commercial Driving Record directly to Uber. We will upload it to your profile and review the document accordingly.

Uber stickers

When your vehicle inspection and background screening have been approved, we will mail two Uber stickers to your mailing address.

Display the stickers. One sticker must go on the front passenger window and the other must go on the back windshield. The stickers are removable and only need to be displayed when you're driving with Uber.

Once you become an Uber driver, we will mail you a decal. You should receive it within 7 business days. If you ever need a new decal after you become a driver, you can request a new one be mailed to you.
