What is a Record Check Certificate (RCC)?

As part of the regulatory requirements to operate in British Columbia, each driver is issued a RCC when they clear a criminal and driving history check. An RCC is required for ridesharing in British Columbia.

What are the requirements to be issued an RCC? 

An RCC will only be issued if you have the following documents approved: Driver’s License, Profile Picture, Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Registration, ICBC Commercial Driving Record (N-Print) and Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS).

Effective September 1, 2026: Please note that your RCC can only be issued if both your ICBC Commercial Driving Record (N-Print) and Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) were issued within the last 3 months. If either document falls outside this window, you may need to obtain new documents before your RCC can be issued.

Your RCC is valid for up to 2 years and will expire on your birthday. The exact expiration date is based on your date of birth at the time your RCC is issued, see this official bulletin for further details. When your RCC expires, Uber will automatically renew your  RCC — as long as your documents meet the requirements. If they don't, you'll need to obtain new documents first.

How do I access my RCC?

Please note that a bylaw officer may stop you at any time and request to see your RCC. If you’re unable to produce this document, you may be fined. Your RCC can be found in your Waybill, which will be accessible once you have completed your first rideshare trip.

You can access your record check certificate by following the instructions below.

Step 1

Open the Driver app and click into the map on the screen.

Step 2

Click on Waybill

Step 3

Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see Record Check Certificate (Automatically Created Once Background Screening Cleared).

Step 4

Click on Record Check Certificate (Automatically Created Once Background Screening Cleared) to access your record check certificate.
