Eataly is the largest Italian retail and dining experience in the world, with 40 locations across the globe. Because of the company’s experience dealing with the early COVID-19 outbreaks in Italy, the brand put stringent safety procedures in place early on at its North American locations.
As an extension of these efforts, they wanted to provide their team of essential workers with a comfortable way to commute to work. The leadership team thought of Uber, given that the company already works with Uber Eats on meal delivery for the restaurant part of its business.
Dino Borri, Global Vice President of Brand Partnerships“The health and well-being of our employees is our highest priority. We wanted to help provide our essential workers with convenient and safer commuting options as well as subsidize their costs.”

Uber for Business helped Eataly launch an employee commute program providing a $100 weekly stipend to employees to use toward rides with Uber. It was part of Eataly’s formal Hero Program for essential workers, and hundreds of employees across the US and Canada had access to it. The company worked with Uber to set geolocation boundaries for the trips and sent its staff members details on how to take advantage of the program.
“Uber for Business gave us the ability to provide a cost-efficient solution for our employees while also helping to practice social distancing,” adds Borri.
The program was an immediate success and resulted in:
- Improved employee morale and productivity
- Continuity for the grocery and prepared food parts of their business
One of Eataly’s Los Angeles employees commented: “Thank you again for these wonderful benefits including the Uber commute program. I really appreciate them, and they are making a huge difference.”
