7 parades, parties, and performances to experience during New York Pride
June 16, 2017 / New York CityGay pride has a deep-rooted history in New York City, and although the famous parade is only 1-day long, events and activities occur throughout the month of June. From rooftop parties to performances, rallies and tours, you can count on this month being full of LGBTQ fun. Here are 7 events and happenings to get you in the spirit.
What to do for New York Pride 2017
1. Pride March
Take your party and your pride to the streets for the 44th annual Gay Pride March. More than 2 million people participated in the march in 2016 and even more are expected to show up this year. A celebration of LGBTQ lives and the New York City community, there will be more than 80 floats and 350 marching contingents showing their support on June 25. The march is free to the public.
When: June 25, 12PM
Location: Begins at 36th St and Fifth St. Ends at Christopher and Greenwich Streets
Experience the march from the comfort of your own home, hotel, or favorite bar, with the first ever televised broadcast. A local affiliate station will air the march from 12PM-3PM on Channel 7, along with an online feed streaming on abc7ny.com. If big crowds aren’t your thing but LGBT fun is, then this is the best way to catch this historic event.

Live out your fantasies at this once-in-a-lifetime show at the Highline Ballroom. Throw on a fun costume and kick-off pride weekend at this wild and out party. Located at a world-renowned concert venue, you’ll dance the night away to DJs, flashing lights, and sound effects that will have you moving all night long. Ticket prices range from $39 for general admission to $79 for VIP. This event is for 21+ only.
When: June 23, 11pm
Location: Highline Ballroom
4. Pride Island
This 3-day cultural experience will carry you through the weekend with legendary soul singers and pop bands. The perfect way to celebrate pride, you can experience performances from Grammy nominated Tegan and Sara, electronica “King” trio Years & Years, Patti Labelle, Nelly Furtado, and a variety of other musicians and DJs. You won’t want to miss the biggest live music event in Pride history. Ticket prices start at $20 and you must be 21 or older to enter.
When: June 23-25
Where: Hudson River Park: Pier 26
Get groovin’ at the 7th annual VIP Rooftop Party. This dance party is held on one of the most exclusive rooftops in New York, providing unparalleled views of the city. Make sure to get your tickets early since this is an official Pride-sponsored event. You must be 21 years or older to enter and ticket prices start at $55.
When: June 24, 2-10pm
Where: Hudson Terrace, 621 W. 46th St.
6. Youth Pride
Under 21 but still want to participate in New York City’s Pride? No worries. The Youth Pride event was designed for teens who want to share their support and passion for Pride. A variety of events, activities, and entertainment are scheduled specifically for teens and their friends. The event is free to attend, but registration is required.
When: June 24, 4-6pm
Location: 14th Street
Join this inaugural event that will recognize leaders in the arts, politics, business, and local community that have had an impact in the gay pride movement in New York City. The Village Voice has a long history with NYC Pride dating back to the 1969 riots at which the Village Voice offered unwavering coverage of the event and brought light to the issues at hand.
When: June 21, 6-9pm
Location: Capitale, 130 Bowery
