Over the last year we’ve introduced a range of new features, changes and additions to help you get more from driving with Uber, on and off the road.
From our partnership with IPSE, which gives you access to illness and injury cover for £2 per week, to millions of pounds drivers across the country have made in tips and the introduction of fairer ratings, it’s all part of our commitment to keep on making Uber better for drivers.
Now, we’re introducing improvements to your experience at the airport and with uberPOOL, as well as bringing greater transparency to how to upload documents and make the best decision for you about your vehicle.

Improvements to your experience at the airport
When it’s busy, it can be hard to know whether going to the airport for a trip is the best thing to do. We’re introducing a range of new features to help you know when it’s best to pick up from the airport - and to make those trips more worthwhile when you do.
Airport Guides
We want to give you the information you need to make the best decisions for your business. We’ve used our data to see when it’s worthwhile waiting in the queue for an airport pick up - and when it makes more sense for your earnings to drive back into town.
In-app queue position
Airports can be busy with lots of drivers choosing to start their day there. Usually Uber’s system means that a trip request goes to the best placed driver to take the trip - meaning a better, quicker experience for riders and drivers - but at the airport, we believe the fairest way to allocate trips is based on a queue system.
Now, we’re introducing more transparency - so your position in the queue is visible:
- At London airports for XL and LUX drivers
- At Leeds Bradford Airport for XL and EXEC drivers
- At Glasgow International, Birmingham International, Edinburgh Airport, Newcastle Airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Bristol International, Southampton, and Cardiff Airport for all drivers
- At Dublin Airport for UberBlack and Taxi drivers
Introducing dynamic pricing at the airport
Dynamic pricing helps Uber stay reliable for riders - and lets you make more at the busiest times. To ensure riders can always get home conveniently, we’re introducing dynamic pricing at all UK airports. When dynamic pricing is in effect, you’ll see this in the partner app, helping you make the best decision about where and when it’s worth going to the airport.
Improvements to pricing on trips from London airports
You told us that some very short or very long trips from the airport weren’t always worth your while, so we’ve improved the fare structure on all uberX trips from London airports (except London City) to help deliver better earnings for you.
In light of your feedback, we’re increasing the per mile rate to £1 and the per minute rate to 12p, as well as standardising cancellation fees at London airports to £10. To remain competitive and ensure continued demand for rides, we’re decreasing the base fare from £12 to £10.
Introducing a dedicated area at Gatwick
After great feedback from drivers who have picked up riders from Heathrow, we’ve worked with Gatwick airport to create an Authorised Vehicle Area there too, exclusively for Uber partners. It will be a free place to stop, take a break or wait and will include toilet facilities. Watch out for information on when you’ll be able to access the new Authorised Vehicle Area.

Information and guidance when you need it
Costs guidance
Your car is your most important - but also your most expensive - business asset. Whether you’re new to professional driving, new to Uber or just thinking about changing your vehicle, our guide gives you the information you need to make the best decision on your vehicle for your circumstances - and then links you to exclusive deals for Uber partner-drivers.
Document upload guidance
Safety and compliance are our top priorities - but we know that you also want to minimise time off the road. We’ve put together guidance on how to upload your documents and what information must be included to maximise your chances of a fast approval.

Improvements to uberPOOL
Ratings improvements
It can be uncomfortable rating a rider with uberPOOL when you have another one in the car - as well as disruptive when you’re anxious to continue the journey. Now, you’ll be prompted to rate all your riders at the very end of your trip - plus, if the rating is less than 5 stars, you can leave feedback with one tap, helping us make improvements to uberPOOL and how riders use it.
Rider ready prompts
uberPOOL is designed to be fast and efficient - so it can be frustrating when you and your rider are stuck waiting for another rider. Now, before you arrive, your riders will receive a push notification alerting them to get to the pick up point quicker, meaning you can continue on your journey faster.
