For Doug Rhodes, part-time Uber driver-partner and full-time cancer patient advocate, the dream of becoming a father began to be realized this summer when he had the opportunity to meet Jay, a 10-year-old Chinese boy in need of adoption. Over the course of the month that Jay lived with Doug and his wife, they found that their lives had been changed and Jay needed to become part of their family.
The adoption process can be long, grueling, and expensive. Without the support of friends, family, and the community, it would be impossible for many families to help those in need and grow. To support Doug and his wife’s goal, we’re matching all contributions made to their You Caring site to help them through the Great Wall China Adoption process and bring Jay home.
If you get picked up by a driver named Doug in a six-passenger van, smile and ask him about Jay. He’d love to tell you.
You can donate to help bring Jay home here. Uber Boston will match each donation received, up to $5,000.
“I smile, knowing that with each mile I’m taking that passenger, it is another mile closer to bringing our family together. All of this is possible because Uber has allowed me the freedom to earn money on my terms.”
This fundraising, we’re proud to announce, is part of a larger initiative called Project Jumpstart. Uber Boston's Project Jumpstart supports local initiatives that are closest to our Boston partners' hearts, and empowers them to spark change in their community.
Each quarter, partners can submit an application for sponsorship for a cause that is important to them or nominate a driver that they think is deserving of extra help. Uber Boston will award funding to winning partners to contribute to their cause.
