We’re super excited to be launching uberASSIST in Wollongong to help local residents with accessibility needs move around their community more easily.

Since our launch in Wollongong we’ve seen more than 20,000 local residents embrace ridesharing as a safe, reliable and affordable way to get around the city.

And from today, we’re delighted to offer choice to even more members of the community.

Uber State Manager for New South Wales Natalie Malligan said uberASSIST had been popular with a range of communities across Australia.

“It’s been really encouraging to see dozens of top-rated local driver-partners put their hand up to join uberASSIST,” Ms Malligan said.

“They’ve all undertaken expert third-party training developed and delivered by the Australian Network on Disability.

“This will ensure they have the right skills and knowledge to help members of the community with different accessibility needs get from A to B safely.

“With uberASSIST, Wollongong locals with folding wheelchairs, walking aids or collapsible scooters can push a button and get a ride within minutes.”

The announcement gained support from Just Better Care, who were pleased to see a new option offered to local community members.

“Quality access to transit for everyone in the community is important and the uberASSIST offering is an example of a business using innovation to bring accessibility to Wollongong,” said Jason Ballerini Director Just Better Care.

“Those in the community who require additional physical support now have more opportunities to access suitable transport to enable their involvement in the community. For some people it will help increase their independence, something that’s very important to us.

“Just Better Care enables people to live independently, maintain their personal and social connections and enjoy a better quality of life.”

uberASSIST is now available in 11 cities across Australia.
