The Urban List is a curated hit list of the best bars, cafes, boutiques, salons and gyms in Brisbane. The Urban List only features the best businesses, which means it’s a trusted source when trying to hunt down that cool West End cafe.
Over the next few week’s we’re putting the Urban List Brisbane team in the driver’s seat of @Uber_QLD for #UBERURBANCITY. We took some time to get to know our local guides.

What makes Brisbane the best city in Australia?

What makes Brisbane best is the people. Everyone’s down to Earth, but have their finger on the pulse when it comes to new openings. Brisbane’s restaurant, cafe and bar scene is booming at the moment. It’s great watching the city mature and grow around us!

The Urban List Brisbane – Top 3 List

BARS

Gerard’s Bar is the uber cool sidecar venue to Gerard’s Bistro. Home to pressed Wagyu cheeseburgers, and more charcuterie than you could poke a bread stick at.

Miss Kay’s only opened recently, but their burger menu, hidden library bars and cocktail list has us swooning.

Heya Bar is one of the hippest bars to hit the Brissie scene in a long time! Five bars in one, Japanese street food, whiskey and craft beers coming out your ears.

CAFES

Shouk cafe in Paddington have a modern Middle-Eastern inspired menu. Their shakshuka is second-to-none! Great weekend spot to read a newspaper.

King Arthur is the younger brother of well-established and renowned Merriweather Cafe. Slow-cooked goat on sourdough? Yes please!

Gauge in South Brisbane serve up one of the best waffles we’ve ever eaten. No seriously, try for yourself!

RESTAURANTS

Madame Wu at Eagle St. Pier is one of our fave date spots. Amazing views, cocktails, and tasting menus. The food there is 5-stars!

The Balfour Kitchen is inside Spicers Balfour Hotel in New Farm. Boasting a head chef previously from Urbane, you will lose your shit over their expertly compiled menus.

Urbane is an institution in the Brisbane dining scene. The theatre of the food is just.. ugh.. amazing!

ATTRACTIONS

Kangaroo Point Cliffs offer up one of our favourite views of Brisbane, if not of the cityscape – of the attractive people running up and down the stairs!

New Farm Park is one of our favourite attractions because such a diverse range of people go there. We love the markets of a Saturday morning, BBQs on a Sunday, or midweek runs.

The Brisbane Powerhouse is home to some of the best performances and gigs in Brisbane, plus it houses Bar Alto. Eat all of the pasta!

In your opinion – what is Brisbane’s best kept secret?

Honestly, there is a best kept secret around every corner. We are forever stumbling upon quaint new cafes, markets, pop-up restaurants, craft beer breweries. If you don’t read our site regularly, just get out there and explore. Brisbane has so much to offer!

You have a friend visiting from out of town for the first time, for just 24 hours. What would you cram in and ensure they didn’t miss?

New Farm Markets in the morning, breakfast at Pablo, shopping down James Street, lunch at Ben’s Burgers, afternoon at GOMA, early dinner at Julius, get along to a Lions/Reds/Broncos or Roar game, post drinks at Statler & Waldorf, and Lefty’s, stay the night at NEXT hotel (phew!).

What’s the most common Uber trip you take?

From work to a bar. For work purposes obviously…

Your best Uber experience?

I don’t think anything could beat your first Uber experience, getting out of the car and just thinking “Where has this service been all my life?!”
