Getting started

Deliver from your city’s favourite merchants to customers using your car, motorbike, scooter or bicycle. Complete the steps outlined below to begin accepting delivery requests through the Uber Driver app.

Sign up to deliver by bicycle

Uber will use your background check to assess suitability in meeting the requirements to register an Uber Driver app account. Background checks can take up to 14 business days to process. Your right to work check will provide evidence of your right to work in Australia.

2. Take the bicycle safety test

To ensure you feel safe on the road, you are required to complete a short test on bicycle safety before you can go online. You must answer all questions correctly.

Background checks

Delivery people are required to pass a criminal background check through National Crime Check (NCC). This can be done online and is usually processed within 14 days. You will receive a confirmation email and a copy of your results once your background check has been processed. No action is required from you after lodging – NCC will supply a copy of your results to Uber. More information is available by tapping the link below.

Required documents: Delivering by bicycle

Passport or birth certificate

The passport or birth certificate must clearly show:

  • Legal given names (first name and any middle names)
  • Surname
  • Birth country
  • Birth state
  • Birth city
  • Gender
  • Date of birth

If submitting a birth certificate, it must be Australian.

Secondary ID

We will need a copy of one of the following secondary identification types:

  • Australian driver licence
  • International driver licence
  • Australian or international student ID
  • National ID (e.g. EU Card Passport)

Note:

  • You’ll also need to confirm that you have the right to work in Australia and that you have access to Medicare or relevant health insurance.
  • If your Secondary ID is not in English, it must be accompanied by a NAATI-certified translation.

Required documents: Delivering by car, scooter or motorbike

Front of the driver's licence

You’ll need to hold a valid open Australian driver licence for the vehicle type you want to deliver with. The licence must clearly show:

  • Your photo
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • The licence expiry date
  • The class as open (provisional licences are not accepted)

Back of the driver licence

The back of your driver licence must clearly show:

  • Issue date
  • Expiry date
  • Date of birth
  • Update to address sticker (if applicable)

Passport or birth certificate

The passport or birth certificate must clearly show:

  • Legal given names (first name and any middle names)
  • Surname
  • Birth country
  • Birth state
  • Birth city
  • Gender
  • Date of birth

If submitting a birth certificate, it must be Australian.

Insurance

The provided insurance certificate of currency must clearly show:

  • Your name as the policyholder or insured driver
  • Your vehicle details (registration, make, model and year)
  • A valid expiry date

Overseas drivers Licence in Australia

Uber Eats welcomes the use of overseas driver's licences in NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT, SA and WA for delivery people who choose to deliver with a car.

Eligible Delivery People who hold a temporary visa and a valid full overseas driver’s licence will be able to deliver via car if they meet all other requirements.

Delivery People who choose to deliver with a motorbike/scooter will be required to hold a full Australian driver’s licence.

Overseas Drivers Licence Overview

Review the requirements below and make sure that you are eligible.

To use an overseas drivers licence, you must:

  • Be on a temporary visa
  • Hold a full overseas driver's licence that is valid and displays a clear photo of yourself
  • Meet the requirements to deliver by car

To be eligible to use an overseas drivers licence, you must be on a temporary visa. Permanent visa holders are not eligible.

Sign up, upload your personal documents and complete a Background check and a VEVO check.

If you are currently partnered with Uber as a bicycle, you will need to change your account to a car.

What type of overseas drivers licence are acceptable?

Your overseas drivers licence must:

  • Be current and valid
  • Be valid for the type of vehicle you intend to use to deliver
  • Have a clear photo of yourself

From March 1 2025, temporary overseas visitors who arrived in New South Wales prior to 1 July 2023 will be required to hold a full Australian driver’s licence

Overseas Drivers Licences not in English

If your overseas drivers licence is not in English, you must provide an acceptable translation. Accepted translations are:

  • International Driving Permit
  • NAATI-certified Translation of your drivers licence

You must provide a photo of both the translation and your licence.

Overseas Drivers Licences in English

If your overseas drivers licence is in English, you can simply upload a photo of your licence to t.uber.com/docupdate

Overseas Drivers Licences with Full Legal Name

If the name displayed in your overseas drivers licences does not show your full legal name, you must upload a secondary document. Acceptable documents are:

  • Proof of Age Card issued by the Australian government
  • A Statutory Declaration signed by the Australian Police Force (Federal or State).
  • A Statutory Declaration signed by an Australian Government Official.

Accepted List of Countries

The following is a list of countries from which we accept the overseas drivers licences:

‘Sign-up date’ refers to the date on which you complete the sign-up form to deliver with Uber Eats. If you’re eligible for this offer, you’ll receive an email confirmation after you sign up. This offer isn’t available to people who have previously completed a signup form to be a driver partner with Uber or a delivery person with Uber Eats, and may not be valid in conjunction with certain other offers or promotions.

The 60-day eligibility period includes the time it takes for you to complete onboarding and become activated to deliver with Uber Eats. The onboarding period may vary depending on an individual delivery person’s circumstances outside the control of Uber Eats.

An eligible delivery for the purposes of this offer (1) is a completed delivery in the Eligible City you’re signed up to deliver in, made by you, and (2) does not include cancelled deliveries. Uber Eats reserves the right to withhold or deduct payments that Uber Eats reasonably determines were in error, fraudulent, illegal or in breach of your delivery person agreement or these terms.
