Vehicle requirements For Expatriates in Dubai
For Dubai, drivers must meet all the requirements of the RTA:
- 4-door sedan or minivan
- Good condition with no cosmetic damage
- No commercial branding
Your paperwork
- Vehicle Registration Card for an RTA-approved limousine
- RTA card for Dubai Only / SRTA for Sharjah Only / ITC card for Abu Dhabi Only
- Emirates ID Card

Vehicle requirements For UAE Nationals in Abu Dhabi
According to UAE law, Emirati nationals are allowed to drive their private vehicles registered under their personal names or under a first-degree relative (Parent, sibling, or child) with Uber in Abu Dhabi.
If the vehicle is under partner-driver’s first-degree relative’s name then the applicant needs to provide a notarized letter from courts attesting the relationship and permission to use the vehicle for commercial purposes.
The vehicle’s minimum requirements are as follows:
Year: Vehicle must be manufactured last 5 years or newer

Seat extra passengers and charge higher fares with a higher-capacity vehicle in Dubai
Additional requirements
- RTA approved Limosuine registered SUV and Minivans
- 4-door SUV or minivan with independently opening doors
- Seats sat least 5 passengers in addition to the driver
- Working windows and air conditioning
- No full-sized vans or trucks
- No taxi cabs, government cars, or other marked vehicles
- No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
Most SUVs qualify to drive with uberXL. See the list of preferred models. Other models may also qualify.
VanXL
This product will include all 7+ seater minivans (Mercedez V-Class, Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Mercedes-Benz Vito, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade or Chevrolet Suburban) and will target larger groups that want to travel with luggage both within the city limits of Dubai but also to/from Dubai International Airport. In addition, key use cases include adventure-seekers with travel/sporting equipment (eg. surfboard, bikes, golf clubs), business conferences, larger groups, and parties.

Additional Requirements:
- RTA approved Limousine Registered Luxury Vehicles
- Premium brands such as Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class or E-Class
- Luxurious interior with leather or fine materials, free of visible wear or damage
- Models manufactured in 2021 or later* No full-sized vans or trucks
