Uber Pool

Share the ride. Share the savings

Uber Pool is New Zealand’s most affordable Uber ride. You save on Uber Pool because we match you with other riders heading in a similar direction.

How Uber Pool works

1. Request

Open the Uber app and enter your destination in the "Where to?" box. Tap the Uber Pool ride option at the bottom of your screen. Then tap Confirm Uber Pool. Only one seat is available for request.

You’ll see the time until your driver arrives, as well as the estimated window of time to arrive at your destination. Even with additional pick-ups, riders typically arrive around 5-10 minutes later than an UberX.

2. Ride

You no longer need to walk to your pickup stop when requesting an Uber Pool.

Save up to 20% off the equivalent UberX fare. The app will try to match your car with other riders heading your way.

3. Hop out

Simply exit the car when you reach your destination. We’ll automatically charge the price to the payment method you have on file. If your trip was 5 stars, consider tipping your driver in the app after your trip.

Frequently asked questions

  • Uber Pool is live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, Darwin, Newcastle, Wollongong, Cairns, Sunshine Coast and Geelong in Australia, and Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand.

  • The Uber app will take up to 5 minutes for your route to be matched with other nearby riders travelling in a similar direction.

  • Even with additional pick-ups, you shouldn’t arrive more than 5-10 minutes later than an UberX.

Your estimated arrival time will be displayed and updated in the app as you ride. New riders will only be added to your trip if it doesn’t significantly impact your estimated arrival time.

  • Riders can be picked up and dropped off throughout your trip, but new riders will only be added if it doesn’t significantly impact your estimated arrival time. Only one seat available per request.

  • No, not necessarily. The Uber app will take up to 5 minutes to look for the most efficient route to share, but if no other riders are found along your route, the upfront Uber Pool price you’ve been shown stays the same.

  • Pick-up and drop-off order is determined by where your destination falls along the route. Because Uber Pool looks for the most efficient route for all the riders on a given trip, you may not be dropped off in the same order you were picked up.

  • That depends on how many other riders are on the trip and what they bring with them. If you’re travelling with lots of bags or other items, we recommend you request a different ride, like UberX or UberXL.

  • You are no longer required to walk to or from pick-up and drop-off points.

  • Once your driver has arrived to pick you up, they will wait for you for 2 minutes. After that, you will be charged a cancellation fee.

  • The Uber app looks to match your Uber Pool trip with other riders heading a similar way. This means once you begin the trip it isn’t possible for you to change the destination, add stops or take a detour, so make sure you’re certain about where you’re headed before requesting.

  • To see your Uber Pool trip price, open the app and enter your destination. You’ll see the upfront price for Uber Pool and this is the price you will pay unless the journey changes significantly. The price won't change depending on whether or not you have a co-rider.

  • Uber Pool prices are now all upfront, to provide you more certainty and to eliminate the guesswork from price ranges. You’ll still enjoy excellent savings by choosing Uber Pool, and co-riders will continue to be a key part of the Share experience!

The Uber app will take up to 5 minutes to look for the most efficient route to share, but if no other riders are found along your route, the fare shown stays the same. The upfront price is the price you'll pay unless the journey changes significantly. We use various factors to determine your price, including expected travel time, traffic patterns, distance, and surge pricing. Plus, our advanced modeling predicts your likelihood of being matched with a co-rider, allowing better savings. The final fare includes base rates, surge pricing, and any expected tolls and fees.

The material provided on this web page is intended for informational purposes only and may not be applicable in your country, region, or city. It is subject to change and may be updated without notice. Use of Uber Pool are subject to these terms, which supplement other terms you have agreed to with Uber. Any savings will be applied in upfront fare and does not require you to be matched with a co-rider. The upfront price will be the price a rider pays unless the trip changes significantly due to traffic, route, tolls or other reasons outside of Uber’s control. Matching with a co-rider is dependent on time of day, traffic, the number of ride requests, and the number of drivers available in a given area. Riders who use Uber Pool can receive minimum savings of 5%, and may receive more based on the time and distance traveled. Savings may vary by city. See the app for details.
