Anthon (57) has worked as a chef all around the world. Due to a chronic disease he hasn’t been working for the last years. As he missed having people around him, he started delivering with UberEATS.“UberEATS gives me a boost to go out and be active everyday.”

“I’m trying to reintegrate in working life. At a regular job you can’t work for just a couple of hours per day. That is possible with UberEATS,” he explains. “UberEATS gives me a boost to go out and be active everyday.” At the moment he is also trying to get his taxi license. “But I’ll definitely keep delivering with UberEATS too.”

Start with a coffee

We meet Anthon on the terrace of his favourite bar at the Spuistraat. “I usually start at eleven by drinking a coffee here. Most of the times I’ve received my first delivery request before I finished my coffee.” Anthon enjoys being able to go on- and offline whenever he wants to. “Sometimes I bump into a friend while I’m online. Then I just say: ‘I’m actually working, but I’ll just switch UberEATS off for now.’ That flexibility is great.”

Chit-chat

Anthon likes being out in the city. “I really like to be outside and this city is just great. You meet people, have some chit-chat. Sometimes I’m just hanging out at Museumplein while waiting for a new delivery request. You often get into a conversation. Many people ask: ‘What’s UberEATS?’”

Chef’s tip

Anthon has worked in restaurants for years. “I’ve sliced quite some cows in my life, haha. I like to be in restaurants again. You know the atmosphere.” At the end of the interview Anthon leaves us with a great tip for a restaurant to order from via UberEATS. “L’Entrecôte et les Dames at the Van Baerlestraat has great meat. Their concept is very simple: tartar as a starter, entrecote as main course and great vegetables on the side.”
