Protection for medical treatment costs and lost earning opportunities

If you’re an UberX driver in Nigeria, Partner Injury Protection can help you with medical treatment expenses and other costs.

You pay nothing

As part of our global commitment to safety we have partnered with AXA Mansard to provide as many driver as possible with protection under this program. That’s why Uber is paying for this program.

Your customers are protected too

While on an Uber trip in Nigeria, your passengers are also automatically protected by the injury protection insurance.

How to claim if you’re injured

If you’re injured in an accident while On-Trip and want to get help with your medical treatment costs, please use the in-app claim form or contact AXA Mansard (see below).

FAQ

  • Partner Injury Protection provides cover for specific events that occur while a Partner is On-Trip. The key features are listed below. For full details please read this information from AXA Mansard.

    1. Medical treatment: If an accident happens On-Trip, this cover reimburses you for medical treatment costs (e.g. X-ray, operations, medicines) up to a capped sum. In addition, this cover reimburses ambulance service costs.
    2. Death and funeral payments: In the unfortunate event that you die as a result of an accident On-Trip, your dependents or heirs will benefit from a lump sum payment. They will also obtain an additional lump sum amount which can be used as you deem fit.
    3. Permanent Disability payments: In the unfortunate event that you suffer a permanent disability as a result of an accident On-Trip, you will benefit from a lump sum payment. The amount depends on the severity of the disability.
    4. Daily Payment Benefit (injury): If you are hospitalized for more than 24 hours as a result of an accident that happened On-Trip and are thereafter unable to work because of those injuries, you will receive a daily payment for up to 30 days whilst you are medically certified by a Doctor as unfit to work.

  • This insurance is provided to you subject to the following terms:

    1. Uber may withdraw, update or modify this insurance at any time in its sole discretion.
    2. This insurance is procured by Uber at its own discretion and cost.
    3. Drivers shall not in any way be responsible or liable for any payments or premiums relating to the insurance whatsoever.
    4. The Driver Partner and Uber acknowledge and agree that the Driver Partner can decide to opt-out from being covered by the Insurance at any time by indicating they are declining the protection of the cover upon notice or request. Declining cover will not affect your ability to use the Uber App.
    5. Driver Partners are independent contractors. This Insurance does not in any way create an employment relationship or an expectation of employment (including from a labour law, tax law or social security law perspective) between Uber and the Driver Partner.
  • Sometimes accidents happen on the road. We want to help you protect yourself against unexpected costs and lost earning opportunities due to accidental injuries sustained while you’re On-Trip. We are proud to be industry leaders with AXA Mansard in being your partner on the road.

  • We have been working closely with AXA Mansard to develop new products in Nigeria. These product offerings are now available to driver partners in Nigeria, and also to riders. The new program launches on the 22nd December 2018. Access to protection takes effect on the same day.

  • Yes, all Uber driver partners now protected, but you can decline if you prefer (see the next question to find out how).

  • It is your decision whether you want this protection or not. You are free to say “no” at any time with no consequences. If you decline, you will no longer be protected by Partner Injury Protection coverage, including help towards medical treatment and lost earning opportunities if you’re in an accident while on an Uber trip.   • Injury Protection is provided in Nigeria where Uber operates Rides from 22nd December 2018.

  • No, Partner Injury Protection does not provide commercial vehicle insurance nor is it a substitute for comprehensive vehicle insurance. Please contact your insurer, broker or agent if you have any questions regarding your motor insurance.

  • You are protected from the moment you accept a trip request, during the trip and through to when the trip ends. Please visit this link to see the full policy details.

  • You do not need to do anything. You are protected whenever you’re On-Trip using the Uber App as of 22nd December 2018.

  • Like most insurance policies, Injury Protection has some general and cover-specific exclusions. Please read the full policy details and exclusions here.

  • In the event you’ve been in an accident and think you might have a claim, please submit a claim via one of the following channels:

    • To Uber through the Uber app;

    In the event of any occurrence likely to give rise to a claim under this Policy written notice shall be reported to AXA Mansard as soon as possible and in any event, within 14 days of the date of the Accident.
