Millions of people drive with Uber across the globe. They drive for different reasons and come from different walks of life: entrepreneurs, parents, immigrants, students. Some drive to earn on the side, while others drive to support their families, their ambitions, or both.

Drivers have also told us they take tremendous pride in the work they do and the service they provide, because they know that in many ways their riders一and families一are depending on them. But we’ve also heard that they would like to be recognized for their commitment to quality service一and to Uber一by helping them build toward the future.

Announcing Uber Pro

Uber’s mission is to ignite opportunity by setting the world in motion. For drivers, this means we are always working to provide more opportunities for them to get ahead. Our commitment began with 180 Days of Change, and it continues today with Uber Pro, a program we are piloting in 8 US cities* that rewards the contribution of our most dedicated driver-partners一on and off the road.

On the Road

With Uber Pro, drivers can unlock rewards like higher earnings and savings that help them make the most of their time on the road. For example, drivers can get up to 25% off standard car maintenance at 20,000 shops nationwide, and up to 5% cash back at any gas station with the Uber Visa Debit Card. Drivers can also enjoy rewards such as faster airport pickups and free dent repair. Riders will also be able to see a driver’s Uber Pro status in the app when they request a ride.

Off the Road

Drivers also told us their ambitions go beyond the road一that they are often driving with big goals in mind. So we are partnering with Arizona State University (ASU) to provide eligible drivers or their families the opportunity to complete courses toward an undergraduate degree or a non-degree certificate through ASU Online, with tuition fully covered. ASU Online is ranked as one of the top online degrees in the US and #1 in innovation by US News for the past four years.

Eligible drivers can choose from 80+ undergraduate degrees, eight different English language courses tailored to their skill level, or receive a certificate in entrepreneurship. Tuition is 100% covered. Classes start at 4 hours each, and can be completed online anytime, so education can fit around their life and not the other way around.

All eligible drivers have the option to transfer tuition coverage to their spouse, domestic partner, child, sibling, parent, legal guardian or dependent. The cost of tuition is fully covered.

How it Works

Uber Pro is designed to recognize drivers’ commitment and high-quality service. To unlock rewards, drivers need to maintain at least a 4.85 star rating and a low cancellation rate. Drivers earn points on every trip during fixed 3-month periods, and the points they earn in one period go toward unlocking status (and more rewards) in the next.

Eligible drivers can learn about Uber Pro, see available rewards, and track progress toward their goals directly in the rewards section of the redesigned Driver App. While the Beta is live in 8 US cities to start, we plan to refine and improve Uber Pro together with drivers, with the goal of rolling it out to more people in the months ahead.

Moving Forward

Whether it’s higher earnings, discounts that help drivers get the most from their time on the road, or a fully-funded higher education that helps them and their families get ahead, we’re committed to helping our most committed partners make progress toward their goals一on and off the road.
