In November of 2013, uberX first hit the streets of Baltimore. In the two short years since then, Uber has connected Maryland riders with over 8.5 million uberX trips, and provided tens of thousands of driver-partners an unprecedented way to earn an income on their own schedule.

As we hit this milestone, we wanted to see just what kind of local impact Uber has had across the Old Line State, so we looked at the data and crunched the numbers. What we found is that by providing access to safe and reliable transportation options to anyone, anytime, anywhere, Uber has helped make Maryland a safer, more economically vibrant, and more connected community.

Collectively Drivers Are Earning More Than Ever

As more and more riders continue to sign up with Uber, demand for reliable and affordable transportation continues to grow, which means driver-partners are busier than ever, taking more trips and earning more money. In the past year, Maryland uberX driver-partners have taken home over $40 million.

Across Maryland, Drivers Are Joining This Rising Tide of Economic Opportunity

From only serving downtown Baltimore just two years ago, to now all corners of the state, Uber driver-partners hail from across Maryland, taking advantage of the flexibility and economic opportunity the platform offers. Uber has created work opportunities for more than 16,000 Uber driver-partners, serving communities big and small across the state. And each month, more and more drivers are partnering with Uber, helping to make uberX rides even more reliable throughout Maryland.

For riders, this means having more choice and greater access to safe, reliable and affordable options, particularly in underserved neighborhoods where taxis and public transportation have been hard to reach. Over the past 2 years, Uber has become a convenient, reliable option for residents and visitors in all areas of the state.

80% of Marylanders Now Have Access to Uber

Uber is proud to be a valuable and growing part of Maryland’s transportation ecosystem, and we’re thrilled to see the positive impact we’ve had across the state over the past two years. We’re committed to improving the communities we serve and look forward what’s next for Uber and Maryland on the road ahead.
