This year was a big year for Uber Boston. Thanks to the thousands of driver-partners and hundreds of thousands of riders we were able to introduce new products like uberPOOL and UberACCESS, launch on-demand services that included chowder and flu prevention and create charitable partnerships with organizations from the Greater Boston Food Bank and the American Red Cross, and welcome many new people to the Uber Boston team including former BPD Commissioner Ed Davis. Next year will mark our 5 year anniversary in Boston and while we celebrate this tremendous year, we are excited about the future and how we can keep moving Boston forward.

CarPOOLing Reinvented

uberpooluberPOOL introduced a new, even more affordable way for Bostonians to Uber. uberPOOL pairs riders with fellow riders headed the same direction for a ride up to 40% cheaper than uberX. It’s already made a big splash in the city with over 1 million POOL trips this year and many more to come in 2016 and beyond!

Ed Davis Joins the Uber Boston Family

Ed_DavisFormer Boston Police Commissioner, Ed Davis, joined the Uber Boston team as a senior advisor, while also joining our U.S. Safety Advisory Board as an inaugural member. Rides With UberMENTORs

UberMENTORIn October, some lucky riders were connected with an UberMENTOR; a group of inspiring Boston leaders, to gain valuable insight into their career, business idea, or life advice. It was incredible to see how many people share the same experiences as they navigate their careers and lives here in Boston.

Riding Out the Storms Together

American_Red_CrossThis past winter was the snowiest on record for the Boston area and the weather certainly made getting around difficult. When Massachusetts declared State of Emergency during Winter Storms Juno and Linus, we capped surge and donated all of Uber’s proceeds on surged trips to the Red Cross, with over $100,000 donated to Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Travis Kalanick Comes to Boston

travis_kalanickUber CEO, Travis Kalanick, visited Boston to speak with both riders and drivers alike. Top Uber driver-partners were pleasantly surprised when Kalanick crashed their event and personally thanked them “for making the city better every day”. He also spoke to a crowd of MIT students and faculty, challenging them to tackle even bigger challenges in innovation, like teleportation.

Chowder Delivery

uberCHOWDERBostonians warmed up this past winter with a cup of hot New England clam chowder on demand sponsored by Legal Sea Foods. In addition, $1 was donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank for every UberCHOWDER bowl purchased.

Accessible Rides

uberACCESSIn September, we announced the pilot launch of uberACCESS in Boston. The service provides anyone in need of a wheelchair accessible taxi a ride at the tap of a button. This pilot program is just the beginning—we are continuing to innovate to further increase mobility for everyone in Massachusetts.
