Findings towards a life free of violence for all women

Discussion panel

The Igarapé Institute, with support from Uber, carried out an analysis of evaluations looking into policies, interventions and initiatives focused on confronting violence against women. The goal of this report is to contribute evidence and relevant findings for decision makers and those who design public policies. This analysis will be presented during this panel, with commentary from other experts in interventions around gender and violence, to address what works, and what does not, from the Latin American experience.

Meet the panel

Renata Giannini, Instituto Igarapé

Dr. Renata Giannini is a fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington DC and project coordinator at the Igarapé Institute. She has over 15 years experience as researcher on public policies in the area of gender equality, violence prevention, and the implementation of the women, peace and security agenda, especially in the Latin American region. Recently, she is dedicated to understanding the connection between climate change, gender inequality and safety, focusing on mapping mitigation actions led by women. Dr. Giannini also consults with UN Women and Gender Associations on the construction of national action plans on the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Brazil and the effects of authoritarianism for the advancement of women's rights in Central America .

Nuria Valenzuela, Crucigrama

Nuria studied Economics and Political Science at ITAM. She has specialized in gender, elections, public finances, justice and safety. She has over ten years experience as a consultant with highly prestigious public, private, social and international organizations in projects on political, economic and social issues. She is currently a co-founding partner of Crucigrama, a consultancy that incorporates traditional tools and recreational approaches in an innovative way to evaluate complex problems and design tailored solutions.

Diana Medina

Es doctora en Ciencias Sociales por la FLACSO Argentina y tiene experiencia en proyectos de monitoreo, evaluación e investigación. Trabajó como Coordinadora del Observatorio de Familia en el gobierno de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, Encargada de Monitoreo y Evaluación en Fundación JUCONI y otros proyectos de investigación y evaluación en México, Chile y Argentina. Le apasiona el pensamiento crítico y la construcción de nuevas realidades sociales desde el feminismo. Es Responsable de Análisis y fortalecimiento institucional en Fondo Semillas.

Laura Manzo | Moderator

Laura has a degree in Communication Sciences from the Anáhuac University and a master's degree in Internet Business and has been an editor for print and digital media for over 20 years. Her career includes the launch and regionalization of InStyle magazine and the news portal The Huffington Post for Mexican editions. Laura was also the editorial director of Quien magazine, and hosted a newscast alongside Leonardo Kourchenko on XFM 92.1. In recent years she has specialized in gender equality issues and has participated in different forums, including the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society and Forbes Mujeres Poderosas. She is currently Chief Content Officer at Dalia Empower, an organization that accompanies other organizations to transform their culture towards a more diverse, egalitarian and inclusive one, and she collaborates for different media such as El Universal, Opinión51 and Vogue.
