How star ratings work

The Uber platform features a 2-way rating system: lessor partners and users give each other ratings based on their lease experience. Your lessor partner rating is an average of the last 500 ratings from your users.

The basics of ratings

After each lease, users and lessor partners have the opportunity to rate each other from 1 to 5 stars, based on their lease experience. Ratings are anonymous. You won’t see individual ratings tied to a particular lease or person.

How to give, get, and check ratings

1. After a lease, the app gives you and your user each the opportunity to provide a rating.

2. If you or your user chooses lower than 5 stars, the app may ask for a bit more feedback about why that rating was chosen.

3. Users also have the option to choose from a set of compliments that apply to you or your lease together.

4. The app adds the ratings you get into an average that’s displayed to your users before and during a lease. Your average rating is an average of the last 500 ratings you’ve received.

5. You can see your ratings, feedback, and compliments in your lessor partner app. Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner, then your profile photo, and then tap the average rating under your name for details.

Frequently asked questions

  • Your rating details can all be found in your lessor partner profile, which you can locate by tapping the menu icon in the top left corner of the lessor partner app, then tapping your picture.

  • If a user gave you a low rating because of issues that you couldn’t help, such as traffic, that rating will not count towards your average.

  • No, you won’t receive star ratings for any canceled or unaccepted leases.

  • It’s normal for your average rating to vary over the course of your first 50 to 100 leases. This is because there are fewer available leases making up your average. As you complete more and more rated leases, your overall rating will be more stable.

  • Providing a thoughtful rating for your user helps everyone get the most from the Uber platform. Some lessor partners consider these 3 things when rating a user:

    1. Short wait times: taking note of whether your user was ready to go when you arrived at the pickup location.
    2. Courtesy: treating you and your car with respect and cleanliness.
    3. Safety: noting whether you felt pressured to do anything that might compromise safety or violate Uber’s Community Guidelines.
