Working With The Indian Tax Authorities

We applaud the Government of India’s decision to include specific language pertaining to aggregators in the 2015 Union Budget that supports innovative technology platforms like Uber and drives improvements to tax compliance in the transportation industry.

This outcome was prefaced by conversations between the Indian tax authorities and Uber over the last few months and is fine example of how government and private industry can work together in short order towards better solutions.

All transactions on the Uber platform are cashless and fully accounted for. With the passage of this new language in the Budget, it will ensure transparency and flow of tax revenues directly to the government. This is in line with the larger theme of this budget – which encourages cashless payments and discourages cash transactions.

We look forward to continued collaboration with the Indian government on future initiatives that can bring greater transparency, safety and efficiency to the transportation industry.
