Kolkata, We’re Just Getting Started
One year ago, we launched Uber in Kolkata with the vision of creating a convenient, reliable and safe transportation option. Since that first trip, we’ve provided an increasingly affordable way to move around the city and brought entrepreneurship within reach of every Kolkatan.
The foundation stone has been cast. Miles of relentless execution lie ahead. We’re just getting started and here is a look at our journey so far.
Kolkata never stops moving, and since launching in 2014, neither have we. The pace of adoption in Kolkata has been remarkable.
Hundreds of Thousands of Kolkatans have access to Uber, and they use it most often when it’s the safer alternative for getting home.
Uber has transformed the way people move around neighbourhoods in the City of Joy. We’ve provided Harley’s and Audi’s` on-demand, partnered with KKR to get you to and from Eden Gardens in style, joined the fight against drunk driving with the launch of #RideSmartKol campaign, helped donate essentials to Goonj, raised money for Nepal, and delivered ice cream across the city to celebrate National Ice Cream Day (to name a few).
This positive change couldn’t have happened without our driver-partners. They’ve covered a lot of ground in a year, and earned a meaningful income along the way. Last August, some had never operated a smartphone. Twelve months on the Uber platform they are entrepreneurs who have been able to build a more secure and prosperous future for their families.
These are the people who move us.
It’s been an exciting ride this first year, and we’re looking forward to many more to come.
