Uber Eats delivery robots form ‘Robo-choir’ to celebrate Sheffield city launch with Starship Technologies
  • Uber Eats and Starship Technologies are launching autonomous robot deliveries in Sheffield today - and celebrating with a brand new jingle competition.
  • The winning track, chosen in collaboration with Sheffield Music Hub and the young people they support, will play when the robots deliver to Uber Eats customers across both Sheffield and Leeds.
  • Anyone* (including schools, choirs and community groups) can now submit their musical talents for the chance to win a prize package worth over £5,000.

If you thought a six-wheeled robot navigating the pavement to bring you a Pad Thai was futuristic, wait until it starts serenading you. Uber Eats and Starship are today launching the hunt for the composer of a bespoke ‘Robo-choir’ jingle, celebrating the delivery bots’ fresh arrival in Sheffield with musical flair.

Combining cutting-edge autonomous technology with a healthy dose of British humour, we are handing the ‘setlist’ over to the public. Starting today, Brits can submit their own 15-30 second long recordings of the track that the robots will play on the delivery to customers, for up to a month.

The nationwide search runs from today until 30 April, with Uber Eats unveiling the winning track and its composer in May - once the robots have had a chance to rehearse. And one more perk? We will award the newly discovered talent a cash prize of £3,000 and a year’s supply of Uber Eats credits. Anyone* in the UK is encouraged to submit their jingle - including choirs, schools and social clubs - so long as the applying representative is over 18 years old.

As Uber Eats continues to roll out autonomous delivery services across the UK, the Robo-choir will bring a bit of tech-led magic for Brits ordering food. The robots, made and operated by global leader in autonomous delivery, Starship Technologies, are already popular in cities across the UK, having completed over 9 million deliveries worldwide. They are now making their first deliveries in the cultural powerhouse of Sheffield, and soon the entire fleet of digital-altos will be programmed to play a sample of the winning jingle, ensuring that locals’ sushi or sandwiches arrive with a crowdsourced soundtrack.

Ian Naylor, Head of Music Education Sheffield said, “At Sheffield Music Hub we are always looking for new and innovative ways to help young musicians realise their creativity and musicality. We work with over 8,000 children and young people every week in Sheffield and we are delighted to be sharing this opportunity with them and supporting this fun initiative, which enables young people to compose, create and celebrate their musicality!”

"Starship robots have been a much-loved part of daily life for communities across the UK since 2018: picking up shopping, dropping off essentials, there when people need them,” said Ahti Heinla, CEO and Co-founder of Starship. “Cutting out the short car trips that add up, our robots have already saved over 500,000 kg of emissions across Europe. We're proud to bring that everyday convenience to 50 000 people in Sheffield, making robot deliveries just another normal part of the day."

"We’ve already proven that robots are a key part of the future of efficient, high-tech delivery," said Merve Basci, General Manager of Uber Eats in the UK. "Now, we want to see if they can hold a tune. This moment is about more than just innovation; it’s about bringing a bit of unexpected joy to our customers’ doorsteps. Whether it’s a power ballad or a catchy hit, we’re letting the nation compose the soundtrack to their next takeaway."

Whether you think a choral harmony suits a late-night grocery order or 80s synth style is the ultimate vibe for a Sunday roast, the choice is yours. To enter, simply email an Mp3 or Mp4 file of your jingle recording to uberjingles@hopeandglorypr.com, along with a short intro (no more than 300 words) on why your entry should be the winner. Uber Eats, Starship Technologies and Sheffield Music Hub will be judging the entries, with the competition winner being revealed at the beginning of May. Full competition T&Cs can be found here

Uber Eats continues to lead the way in autonomous technology as the UK’s most advanced - and now, most musical - delivery experience.
