Teenager accounts on Uber
As the world continues to grow and change, our commitment to providing a safe experience for drivers and riders will always be a priority. This is especially true with the introduction of rides for teens.
Teen accounts are the only authorised way for teens aged 13–17 to use the Uber platform with consent from their legal guardian. Guardians who add a teen account to their Family profile will be notified every time their teen requests a ride – and they'll get real-time alerts plus live trip tracking so they can follow their teen's ride in the app, from pick-up to drop-off.
Mandatory safety education for teens
Before a teen can request their first ride, they must complete a safety onboarding process that teaches them about the safety features that are available to them on every ride.
Informed guardians
Guardians will receive tips on how to prepare their teenager for their first ride after the teenager sets up their account. Guardians will also have access to live trip tracking and will receive status updates for every trip their teenager requests. They'll also be able to contact you directly during the trip.
Always-on safety
Teenager riders will always have access to safety features including PIN verification and RideCheck.

These safety features are always on
Verify my ride Before a teenager gets in the car, they'll have to give you a unique PIN. You'll be unable to start the trip until you enter the correct code into the Driver app. This will help the teenager make sure they're getting into the right car – and it will help make sure that you're picking up the right rider.
Look out for Uber • Teen
For example, to help you easily identify Teen rides, your offer card may read "UberX • Teen". If you see this, it means the trip request is from an official Teen account holder – so there should be no surprises at pick-up.

- Are guest riders allowed on a Teen trip?
Down Small Yes. When a trip request comes from a teen account:
- The teenager is allowed to bring other riders with them, but they must be 13 years old or older
- Guest riders aged 13 to 17 must say that they have permission from a parent or legal guardian
- All teens have to sit in the back seat and should fasten their seatbelts
You can cancel the trip if:
- A rider is under the age of 13
- A guest rider aged 13 to 17 says that they don't have permission from a parent or legal guardian
- All the teenager riders can't fit in the back seat
- How would Teen trips affect my driver rating?
Down Small As always, you can decline any of the trip requests you receive without affecting your rating. If you accept a trip request and arrive at pick-up to find an unaccompanied minor who doesn't have a teenager account, you can cancel the trip and select Unaccompanied minor as the reason.
If you cancel a trip, you can let the rider know why. That way, they won't be left wondering what happened.
- Can I contact the teen’s guardian?
Down Small No, you will not be able to contact Teen riders' guardians at this time. However, a parent/guardian may call you during the trip. Your phone number will stay anonymous in the app, so they won't have your personal contact information.
- How will I know if the teen’s guardian is calling me?
Down Small You won't. All calls – including those made by guardians – will be connected through Uber's private calling system.
- How do I give a rider rating for Uber for teens trips?
Down Small You will be prompted to rate the rider as normal at the end of the trip. This rating will be for the teenager and will not impact the guardian's rider ratings.
You will also see the teenager's rider rating on the offer card before you accept a trip.
- How do I report feedback or a safety incident on an Uber for teens trip?
Down Small The process to report feedback or safety incidents with a teenaged rider is the same as a normal UberX trip. You can report feedback or a safety incident by accessing the 'Help' section of the Driver app and selecting the teenager trip you wish to report.
The report will be made directly against the teenager account but, in some instances, the guardian may be contacted in the event of a safety incident. Teenager accounts can be put on hold and removed from the Uber app as the same process as regular rider accounts applies.
- What should I do if the rider is below 13 years of age?
Down Small Teenager trips are for riders aged 13 to 17 years old.
If you notice at your pick-up location that the rider looks under 13, you can decline the trip and report it to Uber. It's also a good idea to let your rider know why you can't take the trip, so they're not left wondering what happened.
If you are concerned about the rider's safety and they appear to be under the age of 13, you may complete the trip with the rider. After taking the trip, you should report this to Uber, so that we can advise the account holder that teenagers must be 13 or over to be eligible for a teenager account.
Note: Refusing or cancelling trips on this basis will not impact your cancellation rate, if you select the cancellation option 'Unaccompanied minor'.
- What do I do if a rider is below the age of 18 but has not booked an Uber for teens trip?
Down Small Our Community Guidelines specify that riders must be 18 years or older to have an Uber account or 13 years old or older for teenager accounts. If you notice at your pick-up location that the rider looks under 18 and has not booked a teenager trip, you can decline the trip and report it to Uber.
It's also a good idea to let your rider know why you can't accept the trip, so they're not left wondering what happened.
If you are concerned about the rider's safety and they appear to be under the age of 18, you may complete the trip with the rider. After taking the trip, you should report this to Uber, so that we can advise the account holder that adults can't request a trip for someone under the age of 18 or allow them to ride alone without a teenager booking. If the account holder themselves is under 18, we will advise them to get a teenager account to continue taking trips.
Note: Refusing or cancelling trips on this basis will not impact your cancellation rate, if you select the cancellation option 'Unaccompanied minor'.
*Teen accounts will generally be eligible for trips within the broader metropolitan area for each city.
