Introducing uberASSIST

At Uber, we strive to provide transportation options to meet everyone’s needs – serving every part of every community, in every city.

Today, we are introducing uberASSIST – a new option designed to provide additional assistance for members of the community with different accessibility needs, including those who may just feel more comfortable with an extra hand when getting from A to B at the tap of a button.

We’ve partnered with LevelField, an organization committed to promoting the need for an environment that is accessible and inclusive for persons of all ages and access needs. uberASSIST will require our top driver-partners to undergo specific training provided by LevelField on the necessary knowledge and safety requirements of people with different needs and can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers and scooters. (Note: uberASSIST vehicles do not have accessible ramps or lifts.)

Supported by the Disabled People’s Association (DPA) Singapore, and The National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), uberASSIST will help extend Uber’s mission to help people get around their city safely and conveniently. 

Dr Marissa Lee Medjeral-Mills, Executive Director, Disabled People’s Association said, “Our association advocates for greater participation and the  inclusion of persons with disabilities in society. Better and more varied transport options is an important step towards that inclusive society. DPA supports companies like Uber who are looking to see how their services can cater to a growing number of customers with mobility issues.”

Marcus Chee, Director of  Strategic Partnership from the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) said, “NVPC’s vision is to be a giving nation. This starts with being compassionate and sensitive to the needs of everyone around us. We applaud Uber’s move to train their drivers to provide additional assistance to the mobility challenged. Hopefully, this will encourage other companies to follow Uber’s lead and roll out more socially inclusive products in Singapore.”
