It will now be easier to decide if a trip is worth your time and effort. Right when you receive a request, you’ll see:

  • The estimated net fare
  • The pickup and drop-off locations.

How Upfront Fares work

The fares you’ll see won’t be based on fixed time and distance rates alone. Upfront Fares can be based on several factors. Some you know well, like base fare and time and distance rates, and some are new, like the time it takes to pick up your rider.

Better fares on short trips

The improved trip pricing and Upfront Fares will make short trips more valuable to you. The Uber platform will suggest a slightly higher amount on some short trips and a slightly lower amount on some long trips.

More transparent receipts

It’s now easier for you to see when your earnings have been adjusted after a trip has ended.

In your trip history, you will see a label on trips that have had earnings adjustments and your trip receipt will let you know why.

Earnings adjustments happen when:

  • You drive a lot more or a lot less than estimated
  • You get an extra fee for waiting a long time.

What if things change

For example:

  • If there’s unexpected traffic and the trip gets a lot longer, your fare will increase
  • If your trip is shortened because your rider removed a stop on trip your fare will be lower
  • If there’s a change of pickup or drop-off address in the app while you’re on your way, your fare will be updated as you go.

Frequently asked questions

  • No, but keep in mind that now you will have a lot more information to help you decide which trips are worth your time and effort.

  • Upfront Fares is different in that it is not based on fixed time and distance rates alone.

Instead, Upfront Fares can be based on several factors: some you know well, like base fare and time and distance rates, and some are new, like the time it takes to pick up your rider.

The surge value is also included in the fare you see up front, but will also continue to show up as a separate amount on your trip requests. Check offer card set up.

Items that are not included in the upfront fare are wait time fees and tips, which continue to be added as soon as they are paid out. Amounts related to driver promotions will also continue to be added to your balance as they are paid out.

  • Although the Service Fee for each trip may be different for individual trips, the weekly average fee is intended to remain unchanged.

To demonstrate this, we want to provide you with the full transparency: the amount collected by Uber over the course of a week is displayed in the new summary page in your Weekly Statements.

To calculate the weekly amount collected by Uber, simply divide the amount shown under ‘Weekly Uber Service Fee’ by the amount shown under ‘Customer Payments’.

You receive these statements by email every Monday morning or you can access supplier.uber.com to always stay in control.

    • To see the receipts for each trip, on the home screen of your app, go to the section View earnings summary -> View trips -> Trip detail
    • To see the rider payment and amounts that went to third parties, click “More details” to see the "Customer payments" section.
  • An improved pricing approach will also enable Uber to adjust its service fee on a per trip basis to meet the interests of all parties - you, the rider and Uber - in the best way.

To make sure your earnings always reflect the value of a trip, we will offer you a variable Uber Service Fee so that your earnings fairly reflect each ride you take.

No matter what, you’ll see the fare on every request before you accept it, so you can decide if it’s worth your time and effort.

  • To make sure your earnings always reflect the value of a trip, we will offer you a variable Uber Service Fee so that your earnings fairly reflect each ride you take. For example:

    • When the time it takes to pick up your rider is longer than usual, in most cases Uber’s Service Fee may be lower
    • When you are in an area with many drivers but few requests, in most cases Uber’s Service Fee may be higher.

It will in any case be always up to you whether to accept or reject any specific trip taking into account, among others, Uber’s variable Service Fee.

  • If there’s unexpected traffic and the trip gets a lot longer, you’ll see an increased fare on the trip receipt.

  • If there’s a change of address in the app while you’re on a trip, you’ll see an updated fare as you go.

  • You’ll typically earn the fare you saw up front even if you take a shorter route. So if you’d like, you can continue to choose a quicker or shorter route based on your own expertise.
