Star ratings

Understand how the star rating system works

At the end of every trip, riders and drivers are asked to provide a rating from 1 to 5 stars. These star ratings help to ensure the comfort and safety of the Uber experience.

How are ratings calculated?

Your overall rating as a driver-partner is the average of the ratings provided by riders for your 500 most recent trips. If you have completed less than 500 trips, it’s the average of all of the trips you have completed. The average is calculated by adding your individual trip ratings (from 1 to 5 stars), and then dividing that number by the total number of ratings you've received, up to 500.

Driver-partners must rate each trip, while for riders this is optional. The Uber app asks riders for a rating at the end of each trip. If a rider does not rate you, this will not affect your overall rating. Riders and driver-partners can’t rate trips that weren’t completed, so cancelled trips and unaccepted trip requests are not included in your rating.

Understand your rating

Why does my rating keep changing?

It’s normal for your overall rating to vary, especially over your first 50 to 100 trips. This is because there are fewer available trips making up your average. As a driver-partner completes more and more rated trips, often their overall rating stabilises.

Riders are able to rate trips immediately after they end, and they can also go back later and add or change a trip’s rating. Once you’ve completed a high number of rides, no single trip rating should have a big impact on your rating.

How to check your rating

How do I improve my rating?

We’ve put together these tips based on feedback from riders.

Riders prefer when drivers:

  • Pick them up from their exact address, and on the correct side of the street.
  • Ask them if they have a preferred route, or if they would like to follow the GPS.
  • Know their way around the area.
  • Drive smoothly and follow the road rules carefully.
  • Treat them with courtesy, patience and respect - riders are expected to do the same.
