Every trip is insured

Injury cover on every trip

ACC coverage works with your personal insurance coverage to protect you whenever you’re driving with Uber. Here’s how it works.

How it works

Rideshare insurance

In the event that an injury occurs on an uberX trip anywhere in New Zealand, coverage is provided by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). ACC covers treatment for damages incurred by someone injured in an accident in New Zealand, regardless of fault. This coverage applies to uberX trips in the same manner as an accident or injury sustained in another form of transportation.

What's more, we also provide you with contingent liability coverage that works with your personal car insurance policy to help ensure that other road users are protected in the event of an accident. Please note that third party property damage won't cover every eventuality and might not be suitable for everyone's personal circumstances. You should speak to your insurer, broker, advisor or agent to determine the appropriate insurance coverage for you, including whether you require commercial insurance cover.

Requirements

All cars driven by New Zealand UberX ridesharing driver-partners must be:

  • road registered in New Zealand, and
  • insured for a minimum of third party property damage, with the driver-partner as policyholder or named insured driver.

Please note that third party property damage won't cover every eventuality and might not be suitable for everyone's personal circumstances. You should speak to your insurer, broker, advisor, or agent to determine the appropriate insurance coverage for you, including whether you require commercial insurance cover.
