Since we launched in Toronto nearly 4 years ago, more than 1 billion orders have been delivered to customers across 36 countries and in over 500 cities. This month, Uber Eats celebrates three years in Hong Kong, where we have travelled over one million miles to bring people the food they love! Whether you are looking for a cozy pick me up meal at home, a spread of delicacies for a picnic by the park, or a team meal in the office, Uber Eats is changing the way people eat by making food for all occasions, in any location, available for delivery at a push of a button.

Uber Eats has more than 320,000 restaurant partners globally (as of Q4 2018). Our number of active restaurant partners in Hong Kong have grown by more than 50% since last year, as we bring on board a more diversified culinary experience with only a few taps and swipes on the App. We’ve added great additions to our platform this year, including Chualam’s Pho, Jiu Fen Full, Ming Ming Cart Noodle Bar, Ki’s Roasted Goose Restaurant, Kam Kee Cafe, and Ocean Empire, to name a few.

We’ve listened to your needs, and we’re delivering.

Join forces to reduce waste. We all have a role to play in reducing the use of plastic, and we have taken a step forward to help reduce plastic waste. Currently on the Uber Eats App, you will now have to request straws, utensils and other additional items when you place your order. Restaurants should no longer include them by default. We know this is just a first step towards the reduction of plastic waste, but we’re excited to think more about how we can do better for our planet and the impact of food delivery around the world.

#1 city for Pick-Up. Since the beginning of the year, we have been piloting Pick-Up services in different regions around the globe. From pre-ordering your breakfast on the way to the office, to skipping the queues during the lunchtime rush, Uber Eats offer users more ways to eat in a way that fits their lifestyle. Since we launched this service in Hong Kong in April 2019, over 10% of restaurant partners are available for Pick-Up, and growing. Uber Eats in Hong Kong have also become the #1 city for Pick-Up, out of 40 available cities globally. Dumplings and bubble tea are currently being Picked-Up the most on Uber Eats!

Cash or Credit? The Uber Eats cash payment option makes ordering and paying for your next take out easier than ever! Earlier in September, we began to roll out cash payment for users in Hong Kong. So the next time you are ordering for a large group of friends, to avoid the awkward “remember when I paid for that sushi party tray” conversation, you can now easily round up all the cash from everyone in the room and pay your Uber Eats delivery partner when the food is at your door. Simply add “Cash” as a payment method in your Uber Eats payment page.

Slash on Eats

Alongside making eating well effortless at any time for anyone in Hong Kong Uber Eats believes in the future of work, and we fully support flexible economic opportunities – whether you’re funding your next vacation, or working towards an education fund, Uber Eats gives delivery partners the flexibility to earn on your own time, and we’ve seen more than 20% growth in registered delivery partners in 2019. One single Uber Eats delivery partner delivered 14,000 trips in the last 3 years, and one single delivery partner delivered close to 6,000 trips in just 2019 alone.

Eat Carb Much?

It’s no secret that Hong Kongers are carb lovers. But between rice and noodles, which one prevails? The answer is rice by 1.8x! One single customer on the platform placed 139 orders of noodles and rice in a year! We’ve also seen an upward trend of people developing a taste for vegetarian food – we have more than doubled the number of vegetarian dishes available on Uber Eats, with the sophisticated fried rice with truffle and avocado being the hottest favorite!
