The fourth edition of Uber Hong Kong Lost & Found Index is finally here! Over the years, Uber has become a trusted travel option for Hongkongers, and according to a survey released earlier, nine out of ten respondents say that Uber Taxis help them better control their trips and daily schedules. However, no matter how good people are at managing their trips and schedules, accidents do sometimes happen. Fear not, we are here to help!

In 2022, phones and wallets remain the most commonly forgotten items. Interestingly, a new item joined the top ten list this year – cigarettes – maybe a sign that riders are trying to quit smoking?

The latest index also shows a surge in the number of lost jewelry items. The most eye-catching items are wedding rings, a Audemars Piguet® watch and a Tiffany heart pendant. Speaking of wedding rings, the 10 most unique lost items list also includes a set of pre-wedding photos and wedding dolls. Make sure to reach out via the Uber App if you are the owners of the above mentioned items, maybe it’ll save your marriage.

As cashless payments become increasingly popular not thanks to the pandemic, riders have left behind 60% less cash in Ubers this year. Meanwhile, 1 January is crowned the most forgetful day of the year in 2022 and Hongkongers tend to be more forgetful on Fridays – with most laptops left behind on this day too! It looks like people are really relaxed when the weekend starts and tend to forget their valuables. Among the 18 districts, riders in Yau Tsim Mong are the most forgetful, followed by Central and Wan Chai.

Hongkongers are always on the go, and you will be surprised what’s supposed to be kept in their bags. Parents and caretakers are leaving behind kid items like a dimple fidget toy and a cute pink bunny soft toy, the astrologer who tried to escape the mercury retrograde left behind a string of pink crystal, a winner who lost in the game of lost & found left behind a crystal trophy, and a Calbee fan left behind a Calbee Hot & Spicy Potato Chips tote bag. Foodies have also left behind avocados, two pieces of ribeye steak, and a bag of cheese and wine funnel – enough for a nice meal to eat in at home!

We know recovering an item is the best thing that can happen! Here’s how to contact your driver to retrieve your lost items:

  1. Tap “Your Trips” and select the trip where you left something behind
  2. Tap “I lost an item”
  3. Tap “Contact driver about a lost item”
  4. Scroll down and enter your contact number. Tap “Submit”.
  5. If you lost your personal phone, enter a friend’s phone number (you can do this by logging into your account on a computer or using a friend’s phone).
  6. Your phone will ring and connect you directly with your driver’s mobile number.
  7. If your driver-partner picks up and confirms that your item has been found, coordinate a mutually convenient time and place to meet.
  8. If your driver-partner doesn’t pick up, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.

The best way to retrieve a lost item is to call the driver. If you leave your phone in an Uber, you can log into your account on a computer. Uber’s 24/7 customer service will try their best to help.
