Introducing cash payments for Meter Taxi

Uber app now offers Meter Taxi trips, allowing riders to enjoy budget-friendly Uber Taxi rides with the familiar meter-based pricing. To further enhance your experience, from 18 November 2024 onwards, you will also be able to pay for Meter Taxi rides with cash¹. Even if you can’t use a credit card or other linked digital payments, you will still be able to book a Meter Taxi ride. We hope these expanded and flexible payment options can make your journey even easier!

Follow the steps below to select cash as the payment option for Meter Taxi trips:

Before confirming a Meter Taxi trip, select Cash² in the payment options at the bottom of the page. Upon completion of the trip, you can view the trip summary in-app or view email. If needed, request a physical receipt from the taxi driver before getting off as the legal receipt of your trip.

During your trip, you can review the Trip Details to confirm the payment method you’ve opted for. Should you wish to change it, simply tap Switch to go to Payment Options and select a Credit/Debit card. (Note: It is not possible to switch to ApplePay / Google Pay / Alipay)

When the trip ends, please check the actual meter price with the taxi driver-partner. Upon confirmation, the taxi driver will enter the confirmed price in the Uber app. Based on the confirmed price, the system will indicate the final price payable³. Please pay the amount stated directly to the taxi driver in cash.

Notes:

Post-trip tipping is not available for cash trips.
¹Cash payment option on Meter Taxi will be available from 4pm on 18 November 2024. This option currently applies only to Uber Taxi rides (excluding HKTaxi trips) and is not applicable to other ride options, including UberX, UberXL, Flash, Comfort, Assist, and Uber Pet, as well as Uber Reserve for the time being.
²If you have chosen the cash payment option when requesting Uber Taxi trips, theestimated fare details will be displayed in the nearest dollar at the time of requesting. However, the actual fare payable as displayed in the taxi driver-partner’s Uber App will be rounded down to one decimal place after applying the applicable offers or deductions.
You are free to decide whether to use any promotion on the platform. Promotions are not provided by drivers and do not affect driver’s trip earnings. For additional Terms and Conditions on Meter Taxi promotions, please refer to help centre.
³Depending on the actual route, driving distance, duration and road conditions, the actual fare payable at the end of the ride may be different from the estimated trip fare given when requesting the ride. For instance, the rider may request to use the Western Harbour Tunnel during his/her ride to reach the destination, instead of taking the Cross-Harbour Tunnel as shown on the Uber App during the booking stage.
