LONDON (April 6, 2022) – Uber has today announced that UK users will be able to book intercity rail and coach tickets on the app later this summer. This announcement is the latest innovation as part of Uber’s plans to become a one-stop shop for door-to-door travel.

By incorporating national rail and coach travel, passengers will be able to use the Uber app to travel the length and breadth of the UK with ease. For example, when booking a weekend break, users will be able to purchase a train or coach ticket and ensure an Uber is there waiting for them at the station to take them to their hotel.

In addition, Uber is rolling out nationwide car rentals on the app to ensure riders can go anywhere in the UK. Access to affordable rental cars on the app will help locals and tourists alike to explore everything the UK has to offer.

Following the addition of trains and coaches, later this year Uber will expand its offering by adding flight and cross-channel train tickets into the Uber app. From planning a city break or a staycation, to managing a business trip or airport transfer, Uber will provide a simple, seamless, service to meet all travel needs.

Jamie Heywood, Regional General Manager, UK, Northern & Eastern Europe, Uber, said: “Everyone values the freedom to make travel arrangements in a simple and convenient way, which is why we’re excited to become a one-stop shop for all your travel needs. You have been able to book rides, bikes, boat services and scooters on the Uber app for a number of years, so adding trains and coaches is a natural progression. Later this year we plan to incorporate flights, and in the future hotels, by integrating leading partners into the Uber app to create a seamless door-to-door travel experience.”

In the coming months, Uber will confirm the various partners that will include national rail and coach companies, as well as car rental and flight services, enabling users to plan their travels with ease.

Uber riders already enjoy the freedom and convenience of a variety of travel services on the app, including ride hailing, e-bikes, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers and public transport information incorporated into the app. To date, Uber users in the UK have:

  • Booked over 100,000 tickets on the app to enjoy the sights of London on Uber Boat by Thames Clippers.

  • Hired over 1.8 million electric bikes and scooters to explore London and other UK cities, including Manchester, Northampton and Milton Keynes.

  • In 2021 alone, taken over 900,000 trips to Selfridges, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye, which were the top three UK tourist destinations for Uber riders last year.

Since 2019, public transport information has been integrated in the Uber app to help riders in cities across the UK plan their journeys effectively.

  • Rail, coach and airline tickets will be available through a number of partners that are fully integrated into the Uber app.

  • Uber will not be providing these services but the offering will create a seamless experience for booking a wide range of travel options which can be made alongside rides, for example to the station or the airport.
