An estimated 2.4 million people in the UK have a clinical diagnosis of a food allergy – 6% of our population. The three-year partnership between Uber Eats and Allergy UK aims to enhance food allergy awareness, improve safety measures, and ensure people with allergies have a better experience when ordering food from the platform.

Uber Eats has introduced a suite of new features designed to enhance transparency and safety for individuals with food allergies including:

  • A dedicated in-app allergy request field, allowing consumers to disclose their allergies when ordering, with the information saved to their account for future use.
  • Improved visibility for merchants, with allergy requests highlighted on the Uber Eats Orders app and printed receipts, helping ensure they are not missed.
  • Communication tools, including the ability for merchants to contact consumers if they are unable to accommodate an allergy request.

Through this collaboration, Allergy UK will provide expert guidance to help Uber Eats enhance its existing safety measures and better support those with food allergies.

Uber Eats will engage with Allergy UK’s Youth Forums and Parents & Carers Group, to ensure the platform meets the needs of younger people living with allergies. Allergy UK will also co-develop new learning materials for Uber Eats staff, restaurant partners, and couriers, to help equip them to handle allergy-related requests.

Matthew Price, General Manager of Uber Eats UK and Ireland, said: “At Uber Eats, we believe everyone should be supported to order food with confidence. By partnering with Allergy UK, we’re taking important steps to better serve consumers with food allergies, improve education, and ensure that safety remains a top priority for both customers and merchants.”

Simone Miles, CEO of Allergy UK, added: “At Allergy UK, we recognise the very real concerns that people with food allergies face when eating food prepared outside the home. That’s why we are pleased to be working with Uber Eats, sharing our clinical expertise and the lived experiences of people living with food allergy, to improve safety, confidence and choice for their customers.”
