Sexual assault and domestic violence are problems affecting many communities around the globe.

UK SAYS NO MORE is a national campaign that raises awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault across the UK.

We’re teaming up with NO MORE this ‘UK Says No More week’ and committing to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence.  This is their annual awareness week and we are teaming up with them to support the effort.

Here are some ways that you can help:

Act Respectfully

We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy a safe and respectful environment. Some behaviours can make people feel uncomfortable. These include:

  • Staring or winking at riders or partner-drivers.
  • Commenting on someone’s appearance or perceived gender identity and sexual orientation.
  • Asking personal questions about their relationship status.
  • Discussing their sex life or making sexual jokes/using explicit language.

Responding smartly

We all play a role in looking out for each other’s safety. Recognising the signs and behaviours that lead to abuse is important. Remember, never place yourself or others in danger, intervene in a way that feels appropriate and comfortable. If you think a situation could be violent, call 999.

You can either ‘Distract’ and create a situation to speak to the victim alone. Be ‘Direct’ and speak out to the abuser and reassure the mistreated person that they don’t deserve it. Or ‘Delegate’ by bringing in another person to either back you up or handle the situation.

Finding Help

If you experience these behaviours then tap ‘Help’ in your Uber app then report the situation/person responsible.

If you or someone you know experiences sexual assault or domestic violence then call ‘999’ or the Rape Crisis Helpline on 0808 802 9999, alternatively you can use the Bright Sky app, which can be downloaded for free from the Apple or Google store.
