We’re improving Pool to make it a great choice for drivers who want to maximise their time on the road, and for riders seeking a low-cost, environmentally friendly trip from A to B.
This latest change is part of a new, ongoing trial to improve Pool and innovate the way we move and earn in our towns and cities. Going forwards in this trial, you will make the same or more than UberX on a Pool trip. Read on to learn more about these changes.
The key changes to the rider experience are:
- Riders will be asked to wait up to 2 minutes after requesting a trip. This is so we have more time to find another rider going in the same direction.
- Depending on the route, riders may be asked to walk up to 250 metres (4 mins max) to their pickup point to meet their driver.
- This means less detouring to pick up riders, which will make the trip more efficient.
Making Pool work for you
A Pool journey with multiple riders means more trips for you, and less time spent on the road without a rider in your car.
Other changes to Pool in this trial include:
- Making Pool available in Zones 1-5 (previously only 1-4)
- Increasing rider cancellation time from 5 to 60 seconds after you have confirmed a trip
- Increasing rider cancellation fee after this time from £2 to £3
- Reducing your waiting time at the pick-up point from 3 to 2 minutes before you’ll receive a cancellation fee
- The rider will be charged £3 instead of £6 when Uber London cancels a trip after 2 minutes
A safer Pool for drivers and riders
The safety and security of riders and drivers is our top priority. That’s why, as part of the programme to improve Pool, we recently introduced mandatory Pool training for all licensed drivers. This will give you the tools to help deal with any difficult situations that may happen during a trip.
But we’ve also empowered drivers to leave feedback on riders who use Pool inappropriately. If we receive repeated feedback from drivers regarding a rider, we will restrict their access to UberPool. Inappropriate use of UberPool may include:
- Not being considerate towards co-riders
- Asking your driver to reject pickups
- Asking for a different drop-off to the one selected
- Requesting dangerous driving e.g driving faster to make up time
