With all those farms around it, Mansoura should have some good restaurants – and it does, so much so that you actually have to book at weekends. That’s a shock if you haven’t been to the “Bride of the Delta” in a while. Sure, there’s not the variety you find in Cairo, but that’s only to be expected given its relative size. The presence of the University of Mansoura helps to raise standards, although the El-Gam’a university district is still mainly about fast food outlets. But, even there, as well as the usual KFC, Pizza Hut and Domino’s, you’ll find plenty of great local brands to indulge your taste buds.
Best for Egyptian food
Al Sabbahi Restaurants
This mainstay of the Mansoura dining scene – with two other branches in town – has a great choice of Egyptian and also International dishes, with lots of tasty seafood. Whether you’re working on networking for your latest start-up, or taking granny out for her birthday, the experienced staff make everyone feel welcome.

Best for Syrian food
Ahl Al Sham
The craze for Syrian food hasn’t bypassed Mansoura and this restaurant serves hearty portions of shawerma with fries and salads. Your waistline might not thank you but we recommend their chicken shawerma pizza.

Best for International food:
Stereo
The long menu in this family-friendly place ranges from soup and salad through to pasta and Asian dishes, taking in steak and seafood along the way. Such a long menu is usually a bad sign, but Stereo somehow manages to pull it off.

Best for dessert:
La Poire
The Mansoura branch of this popular chain serving up Oriental sweets and western cakes and pastries sits just across the street from the Damietta Branch of the Nile.

Best for breakfast:
Origo Cafe
Opposite the Olympic Village, this spotless cafe, part of the popular chain serving German espresso beans and Turkish coffee, offers a range of sandwiches, waffles and cakes.
Best for lunch:
Steakout
This American-style steak restaurant with five outlets around the country sits opposite Mansoura University and serves tender beef in various sauces. The long menu also includes burgers, pasta and seafood – but save room for their excellent cheesecake.

Best for dinner:
Oregano
This Italian restaurant has some nice pasta dishes, but the pizza is to really be recommended. It’s spotless and there’s a cute children’s play area.

Best for fast food:
Buffalo Burger
El Gomhoria Street
Besides beef burgers in all their variations, this fast food outlet with branches around the country also does a good range of chicken burger options. The Hawaii Waikiki Sandwich, with pineapple rings and cheddar cheese, is particularly good – pair it with their Diablo Fries.
Best for seafood:
Estacoza
Arguably Mansoura’s best restaurant is let down a little by its basic table settings. You’lll be too busy chowing down to be thinking about Instagram anyway.
