As of July 1, 2020, an amendment to the Road Transport Act becomes effective. It regulates the taxi service via electronic orders and thus affects all partner drivers on the Uber platform.
What are the upcoming changes?
The biggest change is the obligation to obtain a registration sticker for a taxi service no later than January 1, 2021, for already registered taxi vehicles, while for new cars registered after July 1, 2020, this obligation applies immediately, not since the beginning of next year. The sticker can be purchased at the Prague City Hall for a fee of CZK 500. The business license number of the carrier and the license plate of the vehicle will be filled in on the sticker. It is your duty to obtain a registration sticker, and if you do not have it placed on the lower right edge of the windscreen, both the driver and the carrier may be sanctioned.
Another big change is the abolition of local driver tests, i.e. topography in Prague. We will no longer require Select and Black drivers to have the Prague topography tests done.
Another important condition is that the carrier must be the operator of the vehicle registered in the Register of Road Vehicles and it is no longer enough to be just the sole owner.
In Uber, we will now also check more closely whether partners own a concession for personal transport of up to 9 people, whether drivers have a valid taxi driver card (yellow card) and we will also focus on an extract from the register of taxi services. If any of these documents do not meet the requirements or are not up to date, we will automatically reject them. We will regularly check the documents retroactively for all existing partner drivers and we will automatically reject invalid documents for new partners. So it is important to have all the documents in order at all times.
