Since last September, nearly 2,000 Scarborough residents have earned extra income as uberX driver partners and that number is growing by leaps and bounds. Uber is announcing today that we will work to recruit 4,000 new drivers in Scarborough by the Fall of 2016.

Each week, more than a quarter million rides take place on the Uber platform in the GTA. We are seeing the fastest growth in neighbourhoods underserved by convenient and affordable transportation options – neighbourhoods like Scarborough – where Uber is quickly becoming a cheaper alternative to car ownership.

In Scarborough, we’ve seen demand increase five-fold over the last 6 months – faster than in the downtown core. And as more Scarborough residents depend on Uber for transportation, more local drivers are partnering with Uber to offer rides in their community.

Last week, Uber partnered with Goodwill to connect with job seekers in Scarborough. The goal was to connect with the community and meet potential Uber driver-partners. In the coming weeks and months we look forward to continuing a schedule of community recruiting in Scarborough.

We’re proud of our work in Scarborough. Residents are eager for flexible and equitable earning opportunities where they can be their own boss and work when they’d like. The best part is that these drivers will deliver reliable transportation options to communities that are underserved by traditional transportation options.
