Getting around should be accessible for everyone, no matter your age, how tech-savvy you are, or if driving isn’t as easy as it used to be. Last year, Statistics Canada estimated that almost 1 in 5 Canadians are seniors. As that number grows, so does the need for simple, reliable ways to stay mobile and connected.

That’s why we’re launching Senior Accounts—a simpler Uber experience designed for older adults. With larger text, and easy-to-follow directions, it’s easier than ever to book a ride. Senior accounts are part of Uber’s Family Profiles feature, allowing loved ones to help set up an account and offer support when needed.

And for older adults who prefer to ride independently, we’re introducing Simple mode, which offers the same streamlined experience—no Family Profile required.

Getting started is easy

Setting up a senior account takes just a few steps:

  • In the Uber app, a loved one invites an older adult to join their Family Profile.
  • The older adult gets a text with a link to download the app and create their account (if they don’t have the app already).
  • From there, they can request rides on their own, or get help from family when needed.

What’s included

  • Simplified experience: Larger text, fewer buttons, and easy-to-follow screens.
  • Saved places: Store frequent destinations like home or the doctor’s office for quick access.
  • Flexible payments: Use a personal card or a family member’s card.
  • Trip updates: Loved ones can follow rides in real time and get alerts if there’s a delay.
  • Support when needed: Family organizers can help book rides for the senior account holder and contact the driver if needed.

But being part of a Family Profile isn’t the only way older adults can enjoy a simplified ride experience. They have the option to turn on a feature called Simple mode, located in the Account section of the app. With Simple mode enabled, they’ll get the same easy-to-use interface—larger text and reduced complexity. It’s an easy way to personalize the app to better suit their needs, while staying fully in control of their own account.

We developed Senior Accounts and Simple Mode in partnership with aging advocates, accessibility experts, and input from older adults themselves to ensure it better meets their needs.

“We took to heart the feedback from older riders and their loved ones, and one message stood out: technology should support, not complicate,” said Michael van Hemmen, General Manager of Mobility at Uber Canada. “Senior accounts represent a reimagined app experience, designed from the ground up to help older adults stay mobile, independent, and connected. It’s part of Uber’s broader commitment to creating inclusive products that serve every rider, regardless of age or tech-savviness.”

“At Hope Air, we understand the importance of accessible, reliable transportation for older adults—especially when it comes to medical travel,” said Mark Rubinstein, Chief Hope Officer at Hope Air. “Uber’s new senior accounts feature is a powerful step forward in helping our clients maintain independence, dignity, and ease of mobility. We’re proud to support this initiative that enhances convenience and care for the communities we serve.”

Our commitment to building inclusive products for every stage of life doesn’t stop here. We look forward to continuing to help our aging communities stay connected and move forward confidently.
