Delivery driver insurance

Uber maintains commercial auto insurance to help protect you in case of a covered accident while making a delivery on the Uber app.

Ontario

The commercial auto insurance that Uber maintains on your behalf when you’re on a delivery trip by car in Ontario is provided by Economical Insurance. That insurance includes the following protection in case a covered accident occurs between accepting a delivery and reaching the delivery destination:

$2 million liability coverage: Covers your liability to third parties from the moment you accept a delivery request on the Uber platform until its conclusion.

$2 million of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage: Protects you for injuries caused by a hit-and-run driver, an uninsured driver, or a driver without sufficient insurance.

Contingent collision and comprehensive coverage: Covers loss or physical damage to your vehicle up to the actual cash value of the vehicle with a $2,500 deductible. This coverage only applies if the vehicle is also insured for collision and comprehensive coverage on your personal auto policy.

Statutory Ontario Accident Benefits

In addition, Uber maintains commercial auto insurance on your behalf during the time that you are available through the Uber app but have not yet accepted a delivery request. When applicable, the insurance provides $1 million of third-party liability coverage and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage along with all of the other coverages listed above.

Quebec

Uber maintains auto insurance on behalf of Quebec delivery drivers. That insurance is provided by Economical Insurance and includes the following protection in case of a covered accident:

$1 million civil liability coverage per incident: Covers your civil liability to third parties from the moment you log in to the Uber app until the moment you log off.

Contingent coverages: Insures loss or physical damage to your vehicle if you have the coverage on your own personal auto policy. The coverage and deductible payable by you are those included in your personal auto policy.

Alberta

When you’re on a delivery by car, your liability to third parties is insured by a $2 million insurance policy for a covered accident. The coverage is provided by Economical Insurance and includes:

$2 million of third-party liability coverage per incident: This insures a delivery driver's liability to third parties from the moment a driver accepts a delivery request on the Uber platform until its conclusion for a covered accident.

Alberta Statutory Accident Benefits

Uninsured motorist coverage per incident: If another motorist causes an accident with a delivery driver's vehicle and that motorist doesn’t carry insurance or cannot be identified, this policy insures bodily injury to all occupants of the vehicle involved in a covered accident.

Collision and Comprehensive Coverage: This insures covered loss or physical damage to the delivery driver's vehicle up to the actual cash value of the vehicle with a $2,500 deductible.

In addition, Uber maintains commercial auto insurance on your behalf during the time that you are available through the Uber app but have not yet accepted a delivery request. Nova Scotia

When you’re on a delivery in a car, your liability to third parties is insured by a $2 million insurance policy for a covered accident. The coverage is provided by Economical Insurance and includes:

$2 million of liability: This insurance policy insures a delivery driver's liability to third parties from the moment a delivery driver accepts a delivery request on the Uber platform until its conclusion for a covered accident. This policy takes precedence over any personal auto coverage.

Statutory Nova Scotia Accident Benefits

Uninsured motorist coverage per incident: $2 million of Uninsured Automobile Coverage protects vehicle occupants who are injured in a covered accident by a hit-and-run driver, an uninsured motorist, or an inadequately insured motorist. It also insures covered damage to your vehicle caused by an identified uninsured driver.

Direct Compensation – Property Damage Coverage: This statutory insurance pays for covered repairs to a driver’s vehicle, as well as related expenses, in the event of an accident that is not entirely the driver’s fault.

Contingent Collision and Comprehensive: This insures covered loss or physical damage to the rideshare driver’s vehicle up to the actual cash value of the vehicle with a $2,500 deductible. This coverage only applies if the vehicle is also insured for collision and comprehensive coverage on the auto policy of the vehicle owner when not used for delivery.

It also insures covered damage to your vehicle caused by an identified uninsured driver.

Newfoundland & Labrador

British Columbia

Drivers in British Columbia are afforded public auto insurance. Most basic personal ICBC auto-insurance policies permit up to 6 days per month of commercial use. This should be indicated on your owner’s certificate. If you are active on the Uber platform for more than 6 days per month, you will need to contact your auto-insurance broker or visit the ICBC website to obtain business coverage.

If you have optional coverages (i.e., above the basic Autoplan coverage), you should contact your auto-insurance broker or visit the ICBC website to see what is allowed under your policy and if additional coverage is needed. You are responsible for ensuring that you have insurance coverage that meets compulsory requirements as well as your own coverage needs.

Saskatchewan

Drivers in Saskatchewan are afforded public auto insurance. Your basic auto liability coverage applies while you are making deliveries. If you have any questions about your current coverage or are interested in purchasing additional auto insurance, you should contact your auto-insurance broker or visit the SGI Canada website to see what is allowed under your policy and if additional coverage is required. You are responsible for ensuring that you have insurance coverage that meets compulsory requirements as well as your own coverage needs.

Manitoba

Drivers in Manitoba are afforded public auto insurance. Most personal MPI auto-insurance policies for all-purpose passenger vehicles permit up to 4 days per month of commercial use. This should be indicated on your owner’s certificate. If you are active on the Uber platform for more than 4 days per month, you will need to contact your auto-insurance broker or visit the MPI website to obtain business coverage.

If you have optional coverages (i.e., above the basic level of coverage), you should contact your auto-insurance broker or visit the MPI website to see what is allowed under your policy and if additional coverage is needed. You are responsible for ensuring that you have insurance coverage that meets compulsory requirements as well as your own coverage needs.

Accident insurance coverage for bicycles

Bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, and on-foot delivery people

Uber maintains insurance on behalf of delivery people while making a delivery on the Uber app in Canada via bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, and while on foot. If you're using a bicycle, e-bike, or e-scooter, or you're an on-foot delivery person, you are insured for covered personal injuries that occur on a trip while you are on the way to the restaurant for a pickup and to the delivery destination for a dropoff. You remain responsible for maintaining your personal auto insurance to provide coverage when you are using your vehicle for personal use.
