Policies that help drivers

Our insurance policies work with your personal insurance coverage to protect you whenever you're delivering with Uber Eats. Here's how it works.

Delivery insurance

Ontario and Quebec

Ontario

When you’re on a food delivery by car, your liability to third parties is insured by a $2 million insurance policy. It insures covered incidents that occur between accepting a trip and reaching the trip destination. The coverage is provided by Intact Insurance and includes:

$2 million liability coverage on-trip: This insurance policy insures your liability to third parties (such as pedestrians and riders in other vehicles) from the moment you accept an Uber Eats trip until its conclusion for covered accidents. This policy takes precedence over any personal auto coverage.

Statutory Ontario Accident Benefits

$2 million of Uninsured Automobile Coverage protects vehicle occupants who are injured in a covered accident by a hit-and-run driver, an uninsured motorist, or an inadequately insured motorist. It also covers damage to your vehicle caused by an identified uninsured driver.

Direct Compensation – Property Damage Coverage: This coverage pays for repairs to a driver partner’s vehicle, as well as related expenses, in the event of a covered accident that is not entirely the driver partner’s fault.

Contingent Collision and Comprehensive Coverage: This insures covered loss or physical damage to the driver partner’s vehicle up to the actual cash value of the vehicle with a $1,000 deductible. This coverage only applies if the vehicle is also insured for collision and comprehensive coverage on the auto policy of the vehicle owner when not used for Uber Eats trips.

Coverage between trips: During the time that a driver partner is available through the Uber Eats app but has not yet accepted a trip, we maintain commercial auto insurance on behalf of driver-partners that includes $1 million of third party liability and uninsured automobile insurance for a covered accident along with all of the other coverages listed above.

Quebec

Driver partners in Quebec are insured for civil liability and loss or damage to the vehicle while on a food delivery by car.

This insurance includes:

$1 million civil liability coverage per incident: This insures a driver partner’s civil liability to third parties from the moment a driver partner logs on the Uber Driver app until the moment the driver partner logs off for covered accidents.

Contingent Coverages: Coverage is provided for collision and upset, all perils other than collision and upset, travel expenses and value of damage, if the driver partner has the coverage on his/her own personal auto policy. The coverage and deductible payable by the driver partner are those included in his/her personal auto policy.

Driver partners remain responsible for maintaining their personal lines of insurance, which provide coverage when the driver partner is operating their vehicle for personal use.
