Statement on Flexibility and Support for Delivery-Partners
Written byDelivery partners tell us they value the freedom of being their own boss. They want to choose if, when and where they deliver. In fact, more than 90% of delivery partners in Australia tell us that flexibility to log on and off whenever and wherever you want is the key reason they use the Uber Eats app. Most use the app to supplement other income.
Delivery partner earnings vary depending on when and where partners choose to deliver. Uber Eats works closely with delivery partners to provide them additional information about where and when the most profitable times to deliver on the platform occur.
Not all online food delivery apps operate in the same way with some requiring partners to work at set times and locations, requiring uniforms and removing the ability for people to choose when and for how long they work, and which deliveries they do.
However, being your own boss does not need to come at the expense of security and support in work. We believe that everyone should have access to a set of affordable and reliable social protections, whatever category of employment they are in. Recently we’ve made investments to support those who use Uber for work to provide them with peace of mind if they get into an accident or are injured. Uber is funding this support package with no additional costs to partners.
We want to continue to offer a better experience, with more support and benefits through our app for driver and delivery partners across Australia. We are interested in working with Australian governments and stakeholders on reforms in this area. This includes looking at how to modernise protections for independent workers, providing greater support for lifelong learning, better targeting of transitional support and stronger credentialing to name a few.
This is a complex policy area and any reforms will require input from workers, the community and business. Our vision is a future that supports Australians looking for more independent and flexible earning opportunities, without limiting their access to the support and security they deserve.
