Sydney public transport information now in the Uber app
Find the best way to get where you need to go
We’re working with Transport for NSW to make it easy for you to find real-time public transport information, like prices and estimated travel times for buses, trains, ferries, and light rail, in the Uber app.
We’ll be gradually rolling out the new public transport feature during August and September to Uber app users in Sydney.
Here’s how it works:
- Enter your destination in the app
- Scroll up and tap ‘Public Transport’
- Tap ‘See Routes’ to see the transport options, with price and estimated time of arrival
- Select your preferred route by tapping it
- Scroll up to see the route instructions – scroll down to go back to the map.
- Follow the route in your Uber app to get to your destination!

- What area is covered by this feature?
The Public Transport feature will provide the journey information and price for all areas that are currently serviced by Opal (i.e. anywhere you can use an Opal card). This includes Greater Sydney, as well as some parts of the Central Coast, Illawarra and Central and Southern Tablelands regions. It will not cover regional trains and buses or regions outside the Opal service area.
- Can I pay for my public transport trip in the Uber app?
Not yet! You will see an estimated cost for your route using public transport, but you cannot currently purchase public transport tickets through the Uber app. Please buy your tickets at the station or use your Opal card.
- Does this new feature show real-time delays?
The app will regularly update the ETAs for all modes of public transport, including any delays on your trip. Remember, the ETAs and arrival times in the Uber app are estimations. The information, prices, routes and schedules are not guaranteed by Uber to be accurate.
- I saw different travel details on another platform. Why is this?
There are often different options to get from one place to another using public transport – these options will all provide a similar arrival time, such as different train lines or bus routes.
- How are the prices calculated?
The prices are calculated by using the full adult Opal fares. While the fares will include transfers between modes of transport, they will not account for any concessions you might be entitled to, or any Opal caps that you might have reached in your weekly travel.
