How to order and receive alcohol deliveries via the Uber Eats app
Alcohol deliveries are available in the ACT and Queanbeyan.
Alcohol delivery is available via the Uber Eats App. Check your local bottle shop’s delivery times by tapping into the bottle shop’s menu and then tapping “More info” in the “Restaurant info” section.
In order to receive an alcohol delivery, you will be required to:
- Not be intoxicated,
- Be aged 18 or over,
- Produce an approved evidence of age document for the delivery person to scan via their Uber Driver app to verify that you are aged 18 or over, and that you are the person who placed the order. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept digital forms of ID at this time.
If the delivery person is unable to upload a scan of your approved evidence of age document, they will need to record your date of birth and the expiration date of your evidence of age document into their Driver App.
Only the account holder who placed the order may receive the delivery. You are unable to authorise another person to accept it on your behalf at this time.
The delivery person will need to confirm that all of the above requirements are met using their Uber Driver App before they can hand over your order to you.
Why are these requirements in place?
Alcohol and minors
- It is against the law to sell or supply alcohol to a minor.
- It is against the law for minors to obtain, consume or carry away alcohol from licensed premises.
- It is against the law for a person to use a fake ID or someone else’s ID to purchase alcohol.
Alcohol and intoxication
- It is against the law to supply alcohol to a person who is intoxicated.
Acceptable evidence of age documents are:
- Driver’s licence issued by an Australian state or territory, or another country
- Australian or foreign passport
- Photo Card issued by the Commonwealth or another State or Territory
- Proof of Age Card issued by the Commonwealth or another State or Territory
- Keypass Identity Card (issued by Australia Post)

- What if I don’t have an ID?
If you are unable to produce an approved evidence of age document, the delivery person will not be able to leave the alcoholic items with you. The delivery person will be prompted by their Uber Driver App to return the goods to the store. If you are unable to present an approved evidence of age document, you should not order alcohol via the Uber Eats App.
- Why is the delivery person scanning my ID?
ID verification using a scan of your evidence of age document is a technology improvement that helps to verify that delivery recipients are over 18 years of age and can legally have alcohol delivered to them. This technology makes this process easier for delivery persons to ensure they’re delivering alcohol to someone over the age of 18. Having a robust age verification process also discourages minors from trying to order alcohol deliveries via the Uber Eats App.
- What data is stored?
When scanning your evidence of age document, an image of your ID will be collected by Uber Eats for regulatory compliance purposes, including to verify your age. Information in the image will be extracted by our contracted service provider and securely shared with Uber Eats. When data is manually input into the Uber Driver App, the data stored will be the date of birth and expiration date.
- How is it stored?
The data will be stored in the United States and processed per Uber’s Privacy Notice. The information extracted from the scanned ID image will be encrypted, as per Uber’s privacy and information security program. This information is used for regulatory compliance purposes, including to help ensure the recipient is of legal drinking age. The image itself will be deleted from Uber’s systems shortly after the information is extracted.
- What if the ID I have is not on the list of approved evidence of age documents?

In order to receive an alcohol order through the Uber Eats App, you will be required to present an approved evidence of age document showing that you are 18 or over. If you are unable to produce an approved evidence of age document to be scanned by the delivery person, the delivery person will not be able to leave the alcoholic items with you. The delivery person will be prompted by the Uber Driver App to return the goods to the store.
- Can another adult accept the order on my behalf?
The order can only be accepted by the account holder who placed the order on the Uber Eats App. If the name shown on the evidence of age document does not match the name on the order, the delivery person will not be able to leave the alcohol items with you and will be prompted by the Uber Driver App to return them to the store.
