How it works
What this means for you

- What are the key features of cover?
Injury Protection provides cover for specific events that occur while a Driver is On-Trip. The key features are listed below. For key details please read this information from AXA.
- Medical cover: If an accident happens On-Trip, this cover reimburses you for necessary medical costs you have incurred following the accident (e.g. X-ray, operations, medicines) up to a capped sum. In addition, this reimburses ambulance service costs.
- Death and repatriation payments: In the unfortunate event that you die as a result of an accident On-Trip, your dependents or heirs will benefit from a lump sum payment. Repatriation expenses: In the unfortunate event that you die or are seriously injured (on the advice of competent medical authorities) as a result of an accident On-Trip, your dependents or heirs will benefit from a lump sum payment to cover reasonable repatriation expenses.
- Permanent Disability payments: In the unfortunate event of permanent disability as a result of an accident On-Trip, you will benefit from a lump sum payment. The amount depends on the severity of the disability, as determined by AXA.
- Daily Payment Benefit (injury): If you are hospitalised for more than 24 hours as a result of an accident that happened On-Trip and are thereafter unable to work because of your injuries, you will receive a daily payment for up to 30 days whilst you are medically certified by a doctor as unfit to work.
*Note: All above covers are subject to prescribed conditions and limits, which Uber may amend at its discretion.
- What are the limits of coverage?
Down Small Coverage Coverage Period Limits Medical Cover On-Trip Up to EGP 75,000 reimbursement (in excess of EGP 200) covering also ambulance costs. Death and repatriation payment On-Trip EGP 337,500 lump sum + EGP 12,500 for Repatriation Expenses. Permanent Disability payment On-Trip Up to EGP 337,500 lump sum. Daily Payment Benefit (injury) On-Trip For drivers only: EGP 100/day up to 30 days (following hospitalization for more than 24 hours). - What are the terms & conditions?
Down Small This insurance is provided to you subject to the following terms:
- Uber may withdraw, update or modify this insurance at any time in its sole discretion.
- This insurance is procured by Uber at its own discretion and cost.
- Drivers shall not in any way be responsible or liable for any payments or premiums relating to the insurance whatsoever.
- The Driver and Uber acknowledge and agree that the Driver can decide to opt-out from being covered by the Insurance at any time by indicating they are declining the protection of the cover upon notice or request. Declining cover will not affect your ability to use the Uber App.
- Drivers are independent contractors. This Insurance does not in any way create an employment relationship or an expectation of employment (including from a labour law, tax law or social security law perspective) between Uber and the Driver.
- Why is Uber doing this?
Down Small Sometimes accidents happen on the road. We want to help you protect yourself against medical costs and lost earning opportunities due to accidental injuries sustained while you’re On-Trip. We are proud to be industry leaders with AXA in being your partner on the road.
- What does today’s announcement mean?
Down Small We have been working closely with AXA to develop new products in Egypt. These product offerings are now available to drivers in Egypt, and also to riders. The new program launches on the 1st August 2018. Coverage is effective on the same day.
- Can all Uber Drivers get this insurance?
Down Small Yes, all Uber drivers are now covered by this insurance, but you can decline if you prefer (see the next question to find out how).
- I don’t want this insurance. How do I say “no”?
Down Small It is your decision whether you are covered by this insurance program. You are free to say “no” at any time with no consequences. If you decline, you will no longer be protected by Injury Protection coverage, including help with medical costs and lost earning opportunities if you’re in an accident while on an Uber trip. - Where is Injury Protection provided?
Down Small Injury Protection is provided in the following countries where Uber operates. Today Injury Protection is available in Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
- Does Injury Protection replace my own commercial vehicle motor insurance?
Down Small No, Injury Protection does not provide commercial vehicle insurance nor is it a substitute for comprehensive vehicle insurance. Please contact your insurer, broker or agent if you have any questions regarding your motor insurance.
- Does Injury Protection replace my own Medical Insurance Policy?
Down Small No, medical treatment cover is not a substitute for a medical insurance policy. The cover provided for medical treatment is related to accidents that happen On-Trip only.
- What does “On-Trip” mean? When am I covered?
Down Small Cover is in place from the moment you accept a trip or delivery request, during the trip and through to when the trip ends or the delivery is completed. Please visit this link to see the key policy details.
- How do I activate my coverage?
Down Small You do not need to do anything. You are protected whenever you’re On-Trip using the Uber App as of August 1st 2018.
- What is not covered?

- How do I claim?
